As I posted in the first thread about this crash: This took place in the “pinch point” between West Virginia and Pennsylvania where Maryland is all of two miles wide north-south.
I-70 make essentially an “X” double interchange (double slip switch in railway lingo) with US 522 and I-68 with exits and entrances on both left and right.
Engineering deserves a portion of the blame.

Speed is a rate. Miles per hour
Speed, erroneously referred to in the media as “rate of speed”. Rate of speed is acceleration, ie the rate at which speed is increasing or decreasing.
