The war must be affecting fleet maintenance.

Wikipedia says the Admiral Levchenko is a Soviet-era ship commissioned in 1988.

We aren’t in a war per se, and our fleet has had two or three catastrophic breakdowns in the last year. Ships have to be cared for correctly. Our ship headed out to build the Hamas supply pier broke down as it left port.

I’m surprised Ukraine hasn’t invaded Russia and Zelensky’s now sitting at Putin’s desk in Moscow the way this war is being reported...

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked’st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe’er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

“The war must be affecting fleet maintenance.”

This came up in another topic. Most major navies have about 1/3 of their hulls alongside for refit and replenishment at any given time. This is a normal tempo for prolonging the service life of ships.

Russia OTOH operates at unsustainable levels and it’s been a longtime problem for them that’s catching up to them.

The engines were made in Ukraine (Mykolaiv).

A lot of the old Soviet supply chain for their Defense Industrial Base was in what is now Ukraine.

Wikipedia says the Admiral Levchenko is a Soviet-era ship commissioned in 1988.

All of Russia's major surface combatants (major = destroyer and larger) are Soviet era, or within a few years. Their dwindling fleet is down to just 4 cruisers and 10 destroyers, all over 30 years old. Save for their submarine fleet, they are more of a Coast Guard now, with a handful of frigates and a bunch of corvettes and patrol boats, most of them also Soviet era.
