Media are reporting that V.P. vetting paperwork has been sent out to the following people:
1. Doug Burgum
2. Marco Rubio
3. J.D. Vance
4. Tim Scott
5. Byron Donalds
6. Elise Stefanik
7. Ben Carson
Accepting that the media has this right, which is always circa 50/50 — though yes, the list seems reasonably accurate — how would the prospects rank?
1. Ben Carson.
Positives: What’s not to like? Everyone’s favorite uncle. Well mannered, dignified, well spoken, accomplished in his tenure at HUD, loyal to Trump. Vetted, passionate Christian and would signal to the black community Trump’s commitment to advancing their interests, which could be vital in the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan (Michigan native), and Wisconsin.
Negatives: May be seen as too extreme on abortion, a key Dem talking point. Perceived as presidential material if something happened to Trump? Open to attack as an ”Uncle Tom” by the extreme Dem partisans, but that could work against them.
2. Marco Rubio
Positives: Vastly experienced, perceived as capable of stepping into the office if required. Would further solidify the Hispanic shift to the GOP, which could be vital in Arizona; Nevada; and Georgia, which has one of the fastest growing Hispanic communities.
Negatives: Apart from the Dems endlessly bringing up Trump’s 2016 attacks on “Little Marco,” etc. and his SOTU response perceived failure, there are no negatives. There is a (Dem-promoted) perception that he is lacking energy, but the campaign would take care of that. The “both from the same state” meme would be easily handled.
3. Tim Scott
Positives: Much the same as Dr. Carson’s, but with the addition of being younger and coming across as more vital.
Negatives: Again, somewhat the same as Carson’s, but with even more Dem scurrilous attacks on his relationship with his girlfriend.

“Not Mentioned and should have been: Sarah Huckabee”
I have no use for her unless/until her administration initiates major lawfare in AR re the Clinton crimes, especially murders. If she doesn’t, she’s too weak to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office. RATs have made a tidal wave of lawfare against so many people; we need to fight fire with fire. The info in Clinton Body count would make prosecuting like shooting fish in a barrel.
“Not mentioned and very remote longshot: Tulsi Gabbard”
Nope. Don’t want a Hindu President.
The can't "invalidate the count." The Electors still provide separate votes for President and Vice-President even though they appear together on the state ballots.
-PJ
I believe the Electors still provide separate votes for each, so there is nothing to invalidate as long as the Electors don't vote for both Trump and Rubio.
But with Florida's 29 EV, in a close election it could create a split Trump/Harris administration if Rubio is on the ticket.
-PJ
I agree. Also, neither of Rubio's parents were citizens when he was born.
Naysayers will say he's still NBC, but it might still influence the court of public opinion after the disastrous Harris as Vice President.
-PJ
Yes, Trump will not receive the courtesy that Al Gore extended to Cheney, pretending that he was an inhabitant of Wyoming.
Plus, Rubio and Scott are both snakes.
I've said before that Donalds would make an excellent Press Secretary, certainly better than Jen Psaki and Karine Jean-Pierre.
-PJ
Donalds and Stefanik are lightweights. And a governor from NORTH DAKOTA adds nothing to the ticket, one of the least likely states for Trump to lose.
OK, now that I’ve run the list, it has to be Vance, unless he does the right thing and picks Tulsi.
Congress allowed W to get away with that in 2000, but the line around the USSC to file for an emergency order invalidating any EVs for Rubio will be there by Wednesday morning after a Trump victory.
Very simple, someone not connected to Fedzilla in any way.
What relevant “media” are reporting exactly this list? (Nobody.)
This is just something that some blogger pulled out of his ass and is pretending it qualifies as “news” (it’s being reported!!!!), simply listing the candidates we all already know about and have been hearing about for months.
Trump himself has already said words to the effect — perhaps just for purposes of misdirection, but perhaps accurately — that his VP is going to be somebody who is NOT currently being mentioned 500 times a day in every rando’s blog posts.
I like Robinson. He’s fearless.
And now is NOT the time to test it because I absolutely GUARANTEE the Democrats will tie this up in court. Best to just AVOID testing it.
Doug Burgum: Looks like a funeral director and is buddies with Bill Gates.
Sure, but that doesn’t mean squat if you don’t win the election.
If we don’t win the election then it’s game over.
You think Sarah would be a ‘loser’ choice?
America is in Civil War 2 with communists.
We need a tough, war time President,
We ALSO need a tough, war time Vice President.
That eliminates all except JD Vance & possibly Donalds.
What about Kim Reynolds- GOP governor of IOWA?
Vivek’s Youtube channel disappeared. Hmmmm......
No, just the opposite. She is my favorite choice.
I guess I was responding to the first part of your post. I should have been more clear, sorry.
I think many here are putting too much emphasis on what kind of VP the choice would be, and would that person be a good Presidential nominee in 2028.
I’m saying none of that matters if we don’t win in November. And to do that, we have to draw from the middle, or at least not scare them off.
Accordingly, my personal favorites are Sanders, Donalds, and Tulsi.
How about Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds?
