Trump’s VP: The magnificent 7, rated
American Thinker ^ | 06/11/2024 | M. Joseph Sheppard

Media are reporting that V.P. vetting paperwork has been sent out to the following people:

1. Doug Burgum

2. Marco Rubio

3. J.D. Vance

4. Tim Scott

5. Byron Donalds

6. Elise Stefanik

7. Ben Carson

Accepting that the media has this right, which is always circa 50/50 — though yes, the list seems reasonably accurate — how would the prospects rank?

1. Ben Carson.

Positives: What’s not to like? Everyone’s favorite uncle. Well mannered, dignified, well spoken, accomplished in his tenure at HUD, loyal to Trump. Vetted, passionate Christian and would signal to the black community Trump’s commitment to advancing their interests, which could be vital in the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan (Michigan native), and Wisconsin.

Negatives: May be seen as too extreme on abortion, a key Dem talking point. Perceived as presidential material if something happened to Trump? Open to attack as an ”Uncle Tom” by the extreme Dem partisans, but that could work against them.

2. Marco Rubio

Positives: Vastly experienced, perceived as capable of stepping into the office if required. Would further solidify the Hispanic shift to the GOP, which could be vital in Arizona; Nevada; and Georgia, which has one of the fastest growing Hispanic communities.

Negatives: Apart from the Dems endlessly bringing up Trump’s 2016 attacks on “Little Marco,” etc. and his SOTU response perceived failure, there are no negatives. There is a (Dem-promoted) perception that he is lacking energy, but the campaign would take care of that. The “both from the same state” meme would be easily handled.

3. Tim Scott

Positives: Much the same as Dr. Carson’s, but with the addition of being younger and coming across as more vital.

Negatives: Again, somewhat the same as Carson’s, but with even more Dem scurrilous attacks on his relationship with his girlfriend.

I like Elise Stefanik and JD Vance.

Stay away from Florida residents!

Immediately this marks the author as a moderate and colors all his other opinions.

The smartest thing I’ve heard anyone say on this topic is that Trump needs to pick someone the left would detest as much as he. Its his security.

Excellent point! Hmmm....based on how they've persecuted him too, that'd be Mike Flynn.

Robinson has his hands full right now in the North Carolina Governor’s race against loathsome leftist hack AG Josh Stein. He’s not polling well currently, and Stein’s churning out running attack ads while Robinson keeps putting his foot in his mouth. His performance as Lt. Governor has been less than stellar. Trump can do better.

No one can replace him so this is really a non-factor.

I don't care a whit about that.

Rubio, the Deep State asset, would be just as much a saboteur as Pence was and Bush Sr was for Reagan. These assets are ALWAYS deployed as last-line control by the three letter agencies.

Not Mentioned and should have been: Sarah Huckabee

Not mentioned and very remote longshot: Tulsi Gabbard

I think it’s better than even money that it will NOT be one of the 7 mentioned in the OP article.

##############################

“Not Mentioned and should have been: Sarah Huckabee”

She’s my personal favorite and a good longshot if one can bet on her. I think she’s 15-20% right now. The more Trump doesn’t talk about her makes me think he’s giving her serious consideration. She checks all the right boxes, IMHO.

#############################

“Not mentioned and very remote longshot: Tulsi Gabbard”

She may be the one who can most help Trump win the election, which is the ONLY meaningful criteria at this point. After that, what she does is anyone’s guess, though I believe she is sincere in her conversion. I would not describe her as a “very remote longshot”. More like a very distinct possibility, like 10-15%.

I’ve been advocating for Ted Nugent. He fills that bill.

Tulsi Gabbard wasn’t mentioned for 20 very good reasons!
She’s a radical leftist. She’s not on our side!

Anyone who is not a senator or congress-critter - select a governor or businessman

Candace Owens should be on the list ahead of most of those.

If Trump and Rubio get enough electoral votes to cover Fla then Rubio won’t need their votes.

Sarah just became governor of Arkansas. Bad form to jump immediately to run fir higher office.

Same with Vance.

I’m a solid NO on Gabbard.

My main thought about a VP is always to ask what kind of president they would make if something untoward happened to the President.

I’d be very comfortable with Sarah.

“I’d like to see Mark Robinson”

He’s very good. Maybe his place in the big time comes in a few more years.
