Approximately 10,000 jobs have reportedly been slashed at California fast food eateries after the minimum wage was hiked to $20.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) law to pay workers $20 an hour went into effect on April 1 and has apparently taken a devastating toll on the industry, Fox Business reported Wednesday.
The outlet continued:
The California Business and Industrial Alliance (CABIA) said nearly 10,000 jobs have been cut across fast food restaurants since Newsom signed California Assembly Bill 1228 into law last year. To highlight what it says are the unintended consequences of the law, CABIA has taken out an ad in Thursday’s statewide edition of USA Today with mock “obituaries” of popular fast food brands.

The idiots on the left will claim it’s all the fault of greedy business owners.
Who didn’t see that coming?
“idiots on the left will claim it’s all the fault of greedy business owners”
Probably.....which since it’s local to only one state shows what true morons they really are.
Fortunately, under Biden, the employment stats are gangbusters! [/s]
It’s all good because now those former employees can get better paying jobs.
“Who didn’t see that coming?”
That jackass governor for one
Liberal marxists like Newsance destroy everything then always, always blame something or someone else. Will democrats EVER learn?
20,000 fast food workers wanted their raise and they voted for Newsom. 10000 fast food workers are on welfare or unemployment so they will be voting for Newsom. It’s a win either way.
Restaurant food? Bugs are way healthier for you. That and a handful of rice everyday. All part of the joyous revolution against capitalistic pig-dogs. Long live our fearless leader!

I don't think they're that stupid. Evil, yes. Intent on destroying Capitalism? Yep. Perfectly intentional.
Everything Leftists touch turns to s**t. Nothing new here.
democrat response:
They should all learn to code...
Singling out fast-food workers makes it obvious that this is political retribution. But 10,000 is only 2% of the fast-food workforce (450,000, BLS data). So basically fast food workers made 33% more money, but there were 2% fewer to enjoy that. For all the problems I have with this sort of political behavior, sorrow for the fast-food workers is at the bottom!
Frankly, I’d’ve thought a ton more workers than 2% would have moved off the books.
With illegal-alien workers, the invisible hand of the market is broken. And with the modern welfare state, taxpayers subsidize any failure of McDonald’s to pay living wages, which are way above $20 per hour in most of California, so let’s not cite any libertarian bullcrap, either. And if you’re sitting in some office while you read this, or collecting your retirement funds, STFU about how much fast-food laborers’ labor is worth.
The money was suppose to come from thin air and everyone would be happy and gay ,D’oh
This isn’t 50% of the workforce, it’s about 2%.
Oh, I’m sure he saw it coming but he just doesn’t care. It doesn’t cost him a job or any money so, in his mind, it’s a great move.
10k jobs x $15.00/hour (previous wage) = $300 million in wages (and taxable income) removed from the Cali-stupid’s economy, not including the consumer spending that would occur.
He’s a genius, that Newscum…
Don’t forget the Left hates the fast-food industry
A sign of the times: the McDonald’s near me, just north of Seattle, advertises a starting wage of $19.50 an hour. Meanwhile, on the sidewalk out front, an apparently able-bodied man has been panhandling for months. A block north, near a Safeway store, two men have been panhandling on the road’s median strip for a couple of years. Back to McDonald’s, nearly all of its employees seem to be recent immigrants of the Hispanic persuasion.
