Wednesday morning. His comments were wrapped in platitudes but cut against the American people’s right to freedom of speech. He could not be more wrong.

McRaven claims that those who criticize government institutions “undermine America.” "Undermining America” is a serious charge. And when it comes from a four-star admiral who commanded the entire United States Special Operations Command, you can bet that it carries some clout among those who are wielding power. For these reasons, McRaven’s comments merit close scrutiny.

McRaven began, not by answering the question, but instead by making sure that his political views got out there. His non-response to Doocy’s question was, “I am not a fan of President Trump. I think the jurors got it exactly right. And I hope he’s not re-elected.”

He then continued, “But that was not the point of the op-ed. The point of the op-ed is, you know, can we rise above all of the rhetoric that’s going on right now. And I tell folks look, can you lay down your rhetorical arms? Can we find a way to bridge the gap? And maybe its naïve on my part but what I see is every time Donald Trump does something wrong, then the left gloats about it, the right rants about it and it just begins to escalate. And we’ve got to find a way to deescalate this because the world is watching.”

McRaven is a perfect example of why you do not place military people especially SpecOps types on a pedestal. Some are amazing people who gave everything including their mental and physical health for their comrades and this country. Other like McRaven are nothing more a political POS.

Never, never look to a General or any Flag Officer for life advice or political advice. The kissed so much RAT ass to get promoted they use Preparation H instead of chapstick. Don't look at their awards, early on as junior officers, awards are genuine but as they rose in prominence the awards were gimmes for finishing a tour. The higher they rose the more fancy ribbons and badges they got.

I knew Flag Officers that were amazing men, but they retired and moved on with their lives. When I see one of them at the Commissary or Exchange I stop say hello and ask about their retirement. They behave like most retirees, we share a sea story or talk about our kids or a friend we know. Unless you knew they wore a Star you would not guess their rank. But the vast majority of Flags are political hacks and just as inept as the 50 Intel Chiefs who claimed Biden's laptop was Russian disinformation.

Good news, the DOD has fallen so far in terms of public perception and respect that the current generation would only know pricks like McRaven if they appeared on a video game. There are countries that do not tolerate speech critical of the government and its institutions. There are countries where citizens who publicly disagree with the actions of the government and its institutions are condemned as disloyal citizens, investigated and tried. There are countries where people with political views that differ from those of the governing authorities are subject to governmental abuse and ruin just because of their political opinions. We have a name for these countries. They are totalitarian.

The AP reports "AI could supercharge disinformation and disrupt EU elections, experts warn."

UNESCO publishes a handbook "Journalism, fake news & disinformation: handbook for journalism education and training."

And in the Netherlands Minister of Defense Kasja Ollongren cites Hannah Arendt to say that disinformation is a telltale sign of totalitarian society. Ollongren is also directly involved as Minister of the Interior and the Dutch Secret Service which finds extremism in the form of anti-institutional opinions that undermine the democratic rule of law. One form of extremism noted is the criticism any governmental actions as malicious.
