Two relatively minor quakes hit Southern California in Newport Beach Thursday evening.

The first quake, magnitude 3.6, hit 1 mile ENE of Newport Beach at 4:52 pm local time. A second quake, magnitude 3.4, hit 2 miles ENE of Newport Beach at 5:05 pm local time.

Shaking was felt in Orange County, parts of the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County.

A magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Newport Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

Seven total quakes have rattled Southern California in the last 6 days.

While these quakes are considered small by California standards, scientists say they may be foreshocks to a major quake on the Newport-Inglewood fault.

The Los Angeles Times reported:

A magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Newport Beach on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in weak shaking in Orange County.

The epicenter of the quake, just southeast of Costa Mesa, was underneath Mariners Park. Weak shaking was felt in Irvine, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Tustin, and Fountain Valley, according to people who reported the shaking to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Did You Feel It? website.

The earthquake struck at 1:46 p.m. and occurred near mapped traces of the Newport-Inglewood/Rose Canyon fault zone. In Santa Ana, one person felt the earthquake as starting with the slowest of rumbles, then a quick jolt.

Much like the Guam tipping warning, maybe all of the illegals is causing the land to settle, causing earthquakes. /s

I didn’t feel it in Torrance. We do sometimes feel quakes from that Newport – Inglewood fault line. They are typically hard snaps, not rollers, because they are so near to us.

Some MMA fighter who has been making some waves lately on social media regarding pedowood predicted a BIG earthquake in CA today. I don;’t know if he was listening to someone else, but he was kind of right.

Small quakes are a good and necessary thing. They help to relieve the pressures that could cause a BIG one.

I’ve been through multiple quakes in California. One of these days a cataclysmic earthquake is going to occur. Like being on a giant trampoline for 10 minutes. People will be commuting on donkeys.

That's a myth.

Earthquake Myths: Separating Fact from Fiction.

Myth #5: Small Earthquakes Relieve Pressure and Prevent Larger Ones

FALSE: It’s a common misconception that small earthquakes can release pressure along fault lines and prevent more significant earthquakes.

While small earthquakes can indeed relieve some stress along a fault, they typically DO NOT significantly affect the likelihood of larger earthquakes. In fact, a sequence of smaller quakes can SOMETIMES indicate that a larger one is on the horizon, but not always. It’s essential to remember that earthquakes are unpredictable and can happen at any time or anywhere.

daughter felt it in Newport.. there were 3609 reported DYFI... so not a real significant quake. I did not feel anything in La Verne, Calif... wouldn't have expected to feel that small...

I follow quakes online and have for years. I keep the monitors going 24/7.

This wasn't out of the norm for sure.

[Verse 1]
It was the dark of the moon
On the sixth of June
In a Kenworth, pullin’ logs
Cabover Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin’ hogs
We was headin’ for bear
On ‘I-1-0
‘Bout a mile out Shakey Town
I says, Pig Pen this here’s the Rubber Duck
And I’m about to put the hammer down

Guam has small earthquakes every day. I was in a 5.4 there once. Was one quick shake that felt like body surfing.

IIRC the big Long Beach quake was on the Newport Inglewood fault.
