Why We Need the Electoral College (Rush Limbaugh)

RUSH: They weren’t taught about the Founding Fathers. They weren’t taught about the concept of federalism. You can’t understand the Electoral College unless you know what federalism is, and federalism is one of these terms that, in many cases, means the exact opposite of the word as it’s currently applied. The word “federalism” you might think that means federalism trumps everything; federalism means federal domination. It does not mean that. It means the exact opposite, in fact. It means the states are sovereign and the federal government cannot tell ’em what to do in so many different ways.

But I think you are very close with your assessment of population centers. The founders did not want population centers to dictate to the rest of the country. They had already seen that happen in Europe in their day, and they had seen the kind of people that gravitate toward various areas. I mean, even in the early days of the country when it was largely an agrarian or agricultural, farmer-type of economy. There were still cities; there were still elites. There were widely different ways of thinking, and there were various different power locations and power points, and the popular vote was considered a way of relegating a lot of people to irrelevance based on population center and the fact that the country is always changing and always shifting. The primary purpose of the Electoral College is to maintain the power of the states and to support the idea that the election is decided by the states. It’s not decided by the general population, and it never was.

The Electoral College has been with us since the first days of the country.

Just after Rush passed away, I began organizing the decades of Rush 24/7 podcasts I had downloaded over time. I happened to click 'play' on one from 2007, when Billary was the anointed one, and B. Hussein was just a skinny creep from Chicago. I listened in order for a while. Sarah Palin has come and gone, and Operation Chaos was a joy to relive. As Hussein began to lead, Rush instituted Operation Chaos to keep Billary relevant for as long as possible.

When Hussein was emaculated, his first days were very much like SloJo Biden. Hussein was having 'exciting' press events where he would announce and sign Executive Orders (EO). Hussein had no idea what Executive Order he was signing, and Greg Craig had to explain everything to him, and to the country. Greg Craig was the lawyer for Fidel Castro and also the lawyer for the father of Elian Gonzalez. Lovely, just lovely.

I just jumped ahead to the months before and after President Trump was elected in 2016. The aftermath is amazing. The article linked today is a transcript of Rush's explanation and conversation about the Electoral College. Brilliant.

We record audio books into the public domain to help further teach the history of America that the progressives stopped teaching over a century ago.

The world would have been pretty much China-style by now if it weren’t for the way our Republic works. It’s only hanging by a thread as it is.

It’s why the democrat made the swap for the word democracy and preach it at every chance.

Why the Electoral College is Bad for America.

A book by George C. Edwards III, 2004.

Democracy is always an easy sell. If you admire democracy, if you feel that America is or should be a democracy, you’ll enjoy this book. If the 2000 election angered you not because Al Gore sought to extend recounts until Florida “got it right,” but instead because he won half a million more votes nationwide than George Bush and still lost, then this book is for you.

Purpose of the Electoral College. However, if you believe the Framers’ system served a distinct and noble purpose, that of providing an endless succession of George Washingtons, men of high public virtue, who arrive in office without political debts, and that any reform should address hundreds of years of political party corruption, then this work will disappoint.

The purpose of the Electoral College isn’t Edwards’ concern.

<>The founders did not want population centers to dictate to the rest of the country. <>

Pretty much irrelevant to the Framers' purpose of the EC.

From the 68th Federalist:

"This process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of president, will seldom fall to the lot of any man, who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications."

"Talents for low intrigue and the little arts of popularity may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single state; but it will require other talents and a different kind of merit to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of president of the United States."

"It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a constant probability of seeing the station filled by characters preeminent for ability and virtue. And this will be thought no inconsiderable recommendation of the constitution, by those, who are able to estimate the share, which the executive in every government must necessarily have in its good or ill administration."

IOW, the Electoral College was designed to supply an endless succession of men of the caliber of George Washington.

Just read the 68th Federalist and ask yourself where the US went wrong.

I sure know we are missing the Big El Rushbo now, I worry there isn’t enough enthusiasm to vote Trump or vote at all.

There is no such thing as a national vote. It is a myth. And it cannot be created. It is unconstitutional. And they would never be such a thing as a national recount. Impossible.

I don't know what makes you think that. Maybe you meant to send this to another FReeper. I just wanted to bookmark Rush's comments so that I could read it later.

I think there are only two barriers to Rats stealing POTUS elections: The Electoral College and the VP refusing to certify the votes of certain electors.

Both have been washed away by laws diluting the integrity of the Electoral College, and by weasel Mike Pence, who had the opportunity to be one of the greatest Americans ever, maybe even POTUS himself, but instead chickened out and thus may have doomed the Republic to the fate of the Ancient Roman Empire.
