A direct clash between Russia and NATO would put the world "one step away from a full-scale World War III," Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters this week as he celebrated a preordained victory in the country's presidential election and underscored his uncompromising Ukraine strategy.
The threat of nuclear escalation has been ever-present as the West continues to bolster Ukraine and frustrate the Kremlin's military campaign. For Moscow, the nuclear card has been useful in deterring deeper NATO involvement in the conflict. "Everything is possible in the modern world," Putin warned this week.

Real B-52 crews were almost required to have a home video of the movie.
Kubrick wanted Peter Sellers to also play the part of Major T. J. “King” Kong. Sellers didn’t want to as he already was plying 3 parts (Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove) in the film. Sellers thought that was more than enough. So on the day he was supposed to play the Major he showed up with his leg in a cast.
Kubrick wasn’t to happy with that so they hired Slim Pickens to play the Major. A good choice. Just as an aside Pickens took allot of guff from other actors saying that he acted too much like a cowboy. Thing was he was a real cowboy before he became an actor.
they could probably direct a hit by sight just by aiming for the massive swarm of shit eating flies.
Slim Pickens was great in Blazzing Saddles
So I guess where Mississippi touches Alabama and Tennessee is the place to move.
Great movie. Great cast.
Shreveport? Why? This is from some 1960’s target crap.
Shreveport has our only B-52 base no longer airborne alert- sitting ducks...useless if not in the air and not much danger if they are. Very big radar signature fwiw.
Shreveport and not MacDill and Centcom— this is bullcrap.
Air Force Global Strike Command
For Putin, taking out Davos when there’s a WEC meeting happening would eliminate a lot of his problems. For the West, eliminating Putin would solve just a few of theirs.
OK. The point stands though that if that one city were wiped out, Washington would be a red state.
I also liked the President’s shouting, “Gentlemen, you cannot fight in here ! This is the War Room !” (responding to the fight between the Russian Ambassador and General “Buck” Turgidson)
The coastal areas get destroyed.
One thing about a war like this, Blue city and Blue State NeoCons don’t get a pass from the consequences of yet another overseas war.
For a change they are at ground zero.
One place among many decentralized backups- airborne too. One way of knowing this to the extent realtime is ADS exchange and see where supposedly the E-3’s are positioned (accepting that transponders are not scrambled in the first place- which hopefully they are). Just interesting, not diagnostic. Note that omaha isn’t on there either.
“ Do they need targeting data for DC? I don’t have any friends, there”
No one has any real friends there.
The closest was Able Archer 83, not the 1950’s.
We were all saved by one Russian Colonel.
Correction; omaha is as a city. offutt S fwiw.
in reality the “city” is glommed onto the huge Bremerton navy base.
I hope, before I die, if there is a nuclear war, I receive the news Washington DC was completely incinerated. The darkest cloud can reveal a silver lining.
“ Yup, I saw the miniseries on Chernobyl.‘
An excellent series. Maybe we should force the entire administration to watch it.
Ah, skip that…they’re all psychopaths, it’d have no effect.
