A series of fire hydrant thefts in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles has left residents without a working hydrant near their homes.
The thefts of four hydrants near the intersection of 82nd Street and Hooper Avenue mean the block doesn’t have even one operating hydrant, KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw reports.

Must be a fire hydrant desert.
The thieves just want to have water wherever they go. Cut them some slack.
Gee, I hope that’s not where the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory is located....
Maybe they’re homesick and want their new home to be more like the s%*thole they left
The lady interviewed towards the end of the newscast asked why the hydrants were being stolen. Evidently, if something is bolted down in certain neighborhoods, it must be worth stealing. She assuming the thieves are rational people.
Perhaps they think if they hide their drugs and guns in fire hydrants the police will not think to look there.
I feel bad for the neighborhood dogs.
They don’t even do this in the Third World.
The scrap price of fire hydrants is like $2.00 maybe less and the cost of a new one is $3000.00-$6000.00
Step 1: Destroy American industry. Eliminate all factories and mills.
Step 2: Import millions of uneducated illegals who have no job prospects.
Step 3: Act all surprised when the illegals go on crime sprees.
Cast iron scrap?
Brass fittings?.................
Cast iron and brass. Check the scrap yards.
Here you go!
Too soon?
The scrap price of a fire hydrant is about $2.00 so it's doubtful that the hydrants are being stolen for scrap.
Most likely our illegals from South of the border are stealing things to sell back in Mexico or what ever country they come from.
“We don’t need no water let the ______ _____ burn!”
I work with a company in Vernon. Those areas are 100% Hispanic.
Seriously... You can’t steal an operational fire hydrant stealthily. There would be a geyser of water 20, 30, 40 feet in the air, right? It’s not like nobody would notice. (See comment #10.)
Plus, you KNOW someone is videoing the scene. Give it a few days...the authorities will be able to ID the perps on YouTube or TikTok.

On a related note, when the Red Army swept into Germany during WW2, the peasant soldiers would often steal light bulbs from German houses. The soldiers were under the impression that the bulbs alone would give light in any house. Wiring, etc. not needed.
Not too many electrical engineers in the Soviet infantry. That’s my guess.
What’s the difference? Firefighters say pot shots are taken at them when they enter this area to put out fires.
If they need firefighters or police they can call Mayor Karen Bass’s office
