President Biden on Monday congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum for her historic win after she was elected the first female president of Mexico.

“I look forward to working closely with President-elect Sheinbaum in the spirit of partnership and friendship that reflects the enduring bonds between our two countries. I expressed our commitment to advancing the values and interests of both our nations to the benefit of our peoples,” Biden said in a statement.

Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former Mexico City mayor, is the first woman and the first Jewish person ever to be president of Mexico. She beat the opposition candidate Xóchitl Gálvez and Jorge Álvarez Máynez to win on Sunday.

Sheinbaum’s background is in science. She has a Ph.D. in energy engineering. Her brother is a physicist. In a 2023 interview with The Associated Press, Sheinbaum said, “I believe in science.”

While the federal government was downplaying the importance of coronavirus testing, Mexico City expanded its testing regimen. Sheinbaum set limits on businesses’ hours and capacity when the virus was rapidly spreading, even though López Obrador wanted to avoid any measures that would hurt the economy. And she publicly wore protective masks and urged social distancing while the president was still lunging into crowds.

Jewish, socialist, climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City? Mexico City is doing so well. Just about flat out of water. Great choice. Confirms my low opinion of voters.

Is Mexico’s government actually functionally “in charge” anywhere in Mexico? Or is it all cartels calling the shots on every important decision there? I don’t ever seem to read about the government going after the cartels there in any meaningful way, I wonder if the governments elected in Mexico just quietly do what the cartels allow them to and get to live, while pretending that are in charge?
I’ve heard for a long time now that it is not safe to drive an car into and around in Mexico, even a rental. It will be stolen and you will have to pay a bribe at the local police station to get it back, that is, if it is not kept and sold elsewhere or chopped for parts. Is there truth to this?

“I believe in science.”

Science doesn’t give a crap about your beliefs, moron.

They all think they’re Peter Venkman.

No one reasonably thought he would win the majority of hispanics. Maybe more than usual GOP results though.

So why don’t the cartels rig the elections in Mexico like the Democrats do here?

It happens every time I think "At last I've found a mexican lady that's attractive": she's Jewish.

Too bad she's a leftist, but that's what mexico's hordes love.
