Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late billionaire Sheldon Adelson, has reportedly pledged to spend more than $100 million to support former President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election after staying neutral in the Republican presidential primaries this year.

Adelson, an Israeli-born physician who specializes in substance abuse, is set to finance a rejuvenated pro-Trump super PAC, Preserve America, which was initially formed for Trump’s reelection bid in 2020, Politico reported Thursday. The Adelsons contributed $90 million to Trump in that election cycle.

Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate who died in 2021, was the most generous single donor for Trump in 2016 — spending $20 million. But he didn’t cut checks until September of that year, and leveraged his support to demand that Trump announce the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem when he won.

There are ways - you can donate unlimited money to the “nonpartisan projects” like voter registration rallies. (See Zuckerbucks)
You can donate to super PACs and parties.
You can split the money to many candidates and PAC’s.
Nonprofits “unrelated” to candidates can spend unlimited money on propaganda as long is not “coordinated” with candidate.
Well, that’s what I know, there are likely more ways.
Basically the so ballyhooed “campaign finance reform” has holes you can drive truck through!
Like everything, it applies to the little men, but the rich can find many ways around it.

What the hell is that?!?! "The Forward" has it backward. Adelson donated to Trump knowing that he had already promised to move the Embassy. No leverage was needed. Unlike others (with the backing of a '90s law), Trump actually followed through.

Yeah. I agree the The Forward has some reckless speculation going on here. I also noticed it here:

But, 110 mil is 110 mil. And if "The Forward" wants to wonder why, especially hours after the conviction, so be it.

I have very little knowledge of The Forward as a source. However, I did hear about the $110 mil pledge on my radio this morning. So this article at least serves to back that up.

Yes, you can. Look up Eugene Debs, Socialist. He was on the ballot nationwide and got a significant vote (1920, 3.4%), and was considered a serious candidate in his day. He was a Socialist, but he was unconstitutionally jailed on bogus charges of sedition.

I think it comes under the guise of whether the money is earmarked by the donor for a specific candidate or to the political party in general (for voter building/education efforts, etc.). The first is limited; the second is not.

From what I've read, YES, you can run as a convicted felon. You can also run from jail. BUT, if you are in jail and/or based on the state in which you are incarcerated, you may not be able to actually vote for yourself.

In New York, as a felon, you may vote immediately after release from incarceration.

I think I remember Lyndon LaRouche running while in prison back in the early 90s.
