The verdict in former President Donald Trump’s business records trial in Manhattan was the “culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement on Thursday following the Manhattan jury finding him guilty on all 34 counts.
“Today’s verdict represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America—all in an effort to “get” Donald Trump,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“That this case—involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago—was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City,” he said, slamming leftist district attorney Alvin Bragg.
“This is especially true considering this same district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct in a way that has endangered law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction,” the governor continued, noting that this case would have never been brought if the defendant was someone other than Trump.
“It is often said that no one is above the law, but it is also true that no one is below the law. If the defendant were not Donald Trump, this case would never have been brought, the judge would have never issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict,” he said, adding, “In America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner, not become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court.”
Trump delivered a brief statement following the verdict, making it clear that the real verdict will be on Election Day.

I don’t believe there is honest discussion or honest ability to agree or disagree with these posters. It was horrendously bad during the primary, and obviously hasn’t gotten better.
Well, we can still try to discuss in a rational manner. It’s time for a healing, for we all need each other in these dark evil times. I am not trying to convert them, I am trying to explain where I am on the topic, and that I am set in my belief because it was not achieved based solely upon Donald John Trump, though he does play a pivotal role. 🙂👍
It’s just the truth.
No, that is not true. Sorry. You’ve been lied to.
I wish you the best then.
It’s not an endeavor, it’s more like a mental workout. 🙂👍
Lol!!!!😂
Because they’ve been told to hate him.
First, the Florida AG is elected separately; the governor does not control her.
Second, he’s removed two Democrat DAs for refusing to fight crime.
Third, do you want him to operate on the same principle that Garland works on?
“do you want him to operate on the same principle that Garland works on?”
YES! A thousand times ... YES!
You want “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime” to be the rule for how we conduct prosecutions?
Which facts did I get wrong?
"how quickly DeSantis would have crumbled had he faced even one of the lawfare indictments Trump has had to face." DeSantis has stood up to giant corporations, leftist DAs, and all sorts of opponents. He has beaten them all and done massive good work for conservative principles and policies. He leads. Every day. DeSantis delivers.
"Anybody who thinks DeSantis has the smarts, the fortitude, or the leadership ability to have politically survived such an onslaught, is kidding himself." False. Again, e delivers conservative wins pretty much every day against all sorts of opponents.
"Trump is the only one who has even a remote chance of taking on the deep state."
Really? He didn't do it in his first term, but Governor DeSantis beats them regularly in Florida. That's why the state is growing. He's beaten Disney, the education establishment, and many others.
"Ron wanted to derail the MAGA movement"
Another falsehood. He's been one of President Trump's staunchest defenders and he's delivered for the people of his state, as a Congressman and as Governor. He's got a great policy record that he wanted to bring to the entire country.
He and his people didn't want the party, the conservative movement, or MAGA to be in the position it's in today, where a conviction -- however unwarranted -- curtails the nominee. But (as much as I hate to say it) we warned you this was coming.
"leading the movement back into the hands of the establishment" That's an absolute lie. For one thing, he lost donors by bucking the Establishment. For another, he's endorsed and supported goodm solid conservatives against Establishment candidates, many of whom had President Trump's endorsement. Trump is much cozier with the Establishment than DeSantis is.
A good example of that was Kentucky, where DeSantis supported Massie, a solid conservative, while Trump supported his opponent, a RINO. The same thing is happening in VA-5, where the DeSantis people are behind the chairmen of the Freedom Caucus, Rep. Bob Good, while Trump supports Good's "moderate" opponent.
Governor DeSantis's record is anything but that of an Establishment Republican.
"He tried to co-opt the movement in the same way the Tea Party movement was co-opted."
Simply false.
"He counted on Trump being taken out. DeSantis played Mr. Populist on the easy, inconsequential stuff and refused to take a stand against the things that matter most"
Again, his record says otherwise, and your claim here is simply false.
"his RINO backers"
Another falsehood. He has none of those. Those were Haley's people. (In fact, a couple of people defected from DeSantis to Haley because of his anti-Establishment policies and actions.
He took out Disney's special status and they caved. He protected kids from the trans lobby and by keeping oversexualized books out of school libraries. He has run a surplus. He fired woke DAs. Name an issue, Ron DeSantis is on the other side of it from the Establishment.
You've been sold a narrative and you bought it lock, stock, and barrel.
True. They would absolutely not want him as President.
Trump’s all in on Mike Johnson.
He’s endorsing RINOs down ballot.
He still doesn’t realize they are going to hate him and want him destroyed no matter what he does for them.
How about we revisit when Trump went from praising DeSantis to not even supporting him during hurricane recovery because he was afraid it would help DeSantis in the primary?
>>”DeSantis has stood up to giant corporations, leftist DAs, and all sorts of opponents. He has beaten them all and done massive good work for conservative principles and policies. He leads. Every day. DeSantis delivers.”
You talk about DeSantis beating them all. But who has DeSantis faced? My local high school football team went undefeated, but look at who they played. You can invoke the “He took on Disney” mantra if you like, but the fact is he signed a bill handed to him by the Florida legislature.
The Reedy Creek repeal effort wasn’t even initiated by DeSantis. The effort started among lawmakers in the Florida legislature and when they passed the bill, DeSantis signed it.
Imagine if Donald Trump were dealing with that sort of legislature instead of Congress. Or better yet, imagine what DeSantis would have accomplished if he had been dealing with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer rather than a Republican super-majority. If you can’t tell the difference between being a red state governor and being president of the United States, then you don’t understand the world we live in.
And you respond to comments of mine like “Ron wanted to derail the MAGA movement” with “Simply False” or “That’s another falsehood”. Do you have proof that they’re false? Of course not. You have an opinion and I have a different one.
Did you not learn the difference between fact and opinion in elementary school? And when you respond to my reference about “DeSantis’s RINO backers” with “Another falsehood”, you’re either ignorant or simply lying.
The problem with your posts is that you reflexively respond to comments that upset you with pat answers like “That’s simply false” and either move on or if you bother to follow up such assertions, do so with facts that don’t make your case. Or you respond with answers like “[DeSantis has] been one of President Trump’s staunchest defenders” or “he’s delivered for the people of his state”, as if simply saying them makes them true. Those are campaign slogans, not informed responses.
A bot could do a better job of making its case than you.
DeSantis has stood down the teacher’s unions, major corporations, lefty DAs, and others.
DeSantis beat them all.
You’re the one making a charge (that DeSantis is trying to derail MAGA.) The burden of proof is on you. You have no evidence, except that someone told you that.
The fact is that his donor records, his record in Congress, his record as governor, the support he’s given President Trump all say you’re not telling the truth when you make that claim.
If DeSantis were dealing with Chuck and Nancy, he’d have plenty of achievement. He has proven his mettle.
How much did President Trump accomplish working with the two of them? Not a lot. The MAGA argument for why Trump didn’t do more was that he was blocked at every turn. Ron DeSantis hasn’t been. He figures out how to beat the blocks.
Governor DeSantis has a proven record, which you choose to dismiss.
You have made no factual statements, just assertions, which I have refuted.
>>DeSantis has stood down the teacher’s unions, major corporations, lefty DAs, and others.
More slogans without specifics. I’ve responded already to your “He stood down Disney” claim. As far as standing down teacher’s unions, lefty DAs and others, I’d have to know what you’re referring to before I can respond.
>>DeSantis beat them all.
I’ve already responded to that. Who has DeSantis faced? Has he taken on Pelosi, Schumer, or Merrick Garland? Has he taken on Juan Merchan, or Jack Smith? No.
>>”You’re the one making a charge (that DeSantis is trying to derail MAGA.) The burden of proof is on you.
I’ve made my case often around here. I even did so in my initial post, and when you respond with “That’s simply false”, then the burden of proof is on you. I cited how DeSantis has been unwilling to acknowledge that outcome altering election fraud took place in 2020. Now if you share his position, that’s a whole different discussion, but if you agree that the election was stolen then you need to explain how somebody who’s being true to the MAGA agenda could hold that position.
>>”If DeSantis were dealing with Chuck and Nancy, he’d have plenty of achievement. He has proven his mettle.”
Now you’re back to the slogans again without any attempt to argue your case. I’ve pointed out to you that DeSantis has been dealing with a Republican super-majority, so your assertion on how he would have plenty of achievement against Chuck and Nancy isn’t based on anything DeSantis has faced in the past. And if you think success with a Republican super-majority legislature automatically translates to success against the Democrats in Washington, then I can only repeat that you’re very naive for thinking so.
>>Governor DeSantis has a proven record, which you choose to dismiss.
I don’t dismiss his record as Governor. I point out that his record as governor of a super-majority red state, with a Republican controlled state supreme court is a poor indicator of success or failure on the national level. If you can’t grasp the substantial differences between the two offices then that’s the crux of the problem.
Terrific, reasoned response. Bravo.
Aside from all the fighting over my governor regarding his record and Trump, remains the issue of trust. I no longer trust him. And regaining trust once lost is almost impossible. That’s the situation he finds himself in. Its why the PR push and the Conservative legislation getting loads of PR.
Ron DeSantiss knows that with Floridians like myself, the pressure is on to shore up his conservative bonefides to win us back for 28. The posters here on FR can say whatever they want to me or rip my opinions to shreds. I live here, and in my part of the state this is a pretty accurate representation of opinion. That stated I do need to say i’m in a very red county of Florida, very MAGA.
