Scientists from the University of Pittsburgh have discovered a large amount of lithium located in Pennsylvania, saying it could eventually supply more than a third of America’s needs for the mineral.
Researcher and study lead author Justin Mackey told CBS Pittsburgh in an article published Wednesday that the wastewaters of the Marcellus Shale gas wells could cover “somewhere between 30 and 40 percent of the current U.S. national demand.”
“This study estimates that Marcellus Shale related Li yields have potential to make a significant contribution to US domestic consumption with a set of reasonable, conservative assumptions,” says the research, published in the Nature Journal last month.

The Dims will block mining and processing it, while the whole time saying we should switch our driving and grid to depending on lithium.
I think they may suddenly become pro-lithium mining if they think it will boost Pennsylvania’s economy ahead of November.
Unfortunately it’s right under downtown Philadelphia, but for the good of the planet everyone needs to move out.
No need to move them out. Lithium green is people
Please don’t scatter the anthill.
No..keep them contained in filth-a-delphia.
rare kangaroo rat found near lithium. All mining prohibited
So are the Chinese ok with this? I’m guessing we need to run it by them.
They are talking about Li extraction from brine. Other than evaporation ponds as in Chile, direct Li extraction has not yet been made economically feasible. Most Li comes from hard rock mining, which is not in the picture here.
Or maybe Hillary will sell the ‘lithium rights’ to Russia or China.. The witch sold our Uranium rights to Russia.
Democrats - when only the dirty and corrupt will do...
There are huge lepidolite reserves in New Mexico, which have been mined and are a great source rock (mica) for lithium. However, NM is an iffy state at the moment.
Only God could have blessed this country with so many natural resources. Only Satan could block us from using them.
Biden calls Xi shipment on the way?.
There is no mining in this case. They are using UT Austin technology GO HORNS! To strip lithium out of flowback and production water from existing gas wells. This is an add on process between the production wells and the ultimate salt water disposal wells. This water was going to be produced anyways as a product of oil and gas production. I have drilled well over a hundred SWD wells in the Permian Basin and worked in this UT tech when it was in beta signed a NDA about it as well. There is massive amounts of lithium in most flow back and production shale water it is from the bottom of a prehistoric ocean after all and lithium chloride and carbonate is ubiquitous in seawater. Shale has a habit of concentrating salts lithium included.
UT Austin developed an ion exchange process that needs no evap ponds it’s meant for flowback brines from oil and gas wells but would work just as well with dedicated solution mined in situ brine leaching. I am a hydro geo and a UT alumni who worked with this tech in 2021-22 in the Permian Basin with a major industry partner doing the SWD drilling for the brine disposal after the ion exchange process.
Joe will tout this to get the dumb Pennsylvania vote, then have his EPA squash any attempt to mine it after the election.
I think congress makes more insider trading cash if it’s foreign. Just like MTG made millions on Ukraine war… until she stopped self reporting.
I am sure that means she has become one of us.
This is why republicans fund every democrat budget.
Heck trump didn’t even whisper about a shutdown.
He just had Johnson visit, then sufdenlt it’s funded.
Bkmk
How much will the Biden klan get when Chomo Joe sells it to China?
