Chase Oliver won the Libertarian Party presidential nomination on Sunday after seven rounds of voting at the party’s convention in Washington, DC.

The 38-year-old, who has previously run for Congress multiple times in Georgia, focused his pitch on making Libertarian values palatable to a broader audience.

In an interview with CNN following his nomination, Oliver said he believes earning 2% of the vote nationally in November’s general election is a reasonable goal.

3.4 Free Trade and Migration

We support the removal of governmental impediments to free trade. Political freedom and escape from tyranny demand that individuals not be unreasonably constrained by government in the crossing of political boundaries. Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders.

“Libertarians supposedly believe government can legitimately defend life and Liberty”

which is completely at odds with their denial of political boundaries [hard to defend something that doesn’t exist]:

We support the removal of governmental impediments to free trade. Political freedom and escape from tyranny demand that individuals not be unreasonably constrained by government in the crossing of political boundaries. Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders.

well, here's some libertarian "rational" for you:

The Deep State IS the activist, mostly unconstitutional federal government.

political freedom...economic freedom...trade freedom

How about the Freedom to speak without being Booed?

I always thought those people would be sedate.

Less than a million in the party, that was a surprise for me also.

Like Milton Friedman was, I’m a small “l” libertarian, not a party member.

I think those guys are kind of crazy. They come across as Jacobean.

Correction: The Libertarian Party comes across as the Jacobean JACOBIN Party (French Revolution nut cases).

He voted for Obama. Twice.

Vote Libertarian, though. Joe will certainly stop the rapid march toward secular totalitarianism in his second term, right?

That’s in no way a Libertarian position. If anything, the Trump position on federalism and states’ rights is Libertarian in nature as federal policy.

But no longer. He seems to have come full circle on a lot of issue if you look at the longer lists of his views over time. Regardless, he’s aiming for 2% of the national vote instead of the loosely predicted 3%, which is a joke. That means Trump will gain 1/3 of the libertarian vote.

Libertarians, for the most part, have no sense of practical politics. They don't understand the concept of moving the ball in a pro-liberty direction. They want it all now.

I'm a senior. I've seen a lot. I was in college (Hillsdale when President Ford re-legalized gold. My libertarian friends were angry.

They wanted the ability to buy, sell, and make contracts in gold. Well, they got the first two and were fuming that they didn't get the third.

I told them keep working for it, but you got two of the three things. They pretty much dismissed that.

This gives you some sense of the hardcore libertarians' view of the practicalities of moving teh window closer and closer to your goal.

I've never been a full-out libertarian, though I agree with them on a number of things. The Mises Caucus has done a lot of good in moving the LP in a more reasonable direction, away from Crazyland. With one vote last night, the LP undid a lot of that.

As far as I can tell, Ron Paul gave a speech at the libertarian convention, Rand Paul did not attend.
