The deranged nut who tossed flaming liquid at an unsuspecting straphanger also tried to torch a group of commuters at a Manhattan subway station earlier this year, cops said Sunday.
The suspect, Nile Taylor, 49, gave an icy stare to photographers as he was led from Transit District 2 to Manhattan court for arraignment in the weekend case Sunday afternoon.
Taylor was in custody on an assault rap in the fiery Saturday attack on 23-year-old Petrit Alijaj at the Varick Street station in Manhattan when he was identified and charged in a similar Feb. 5 incident at the West 28th Street subway station, too, police said.

An NYC radio show host got a whiff of this story, figured out that that was the very station he uses every day, and WENT OFF on the lack of safety and the MTA’s willful negligence in failing to improve the situation over time (including inaudible public address speakers useless in an emergency).
so he got a free burn last Feb....rule of the day I guess...everybody gets a free violent crime before the authorities get really mad....
shocked I tell ya...just shocked...

If you're attacked by a prosecutor for carrying, just conclude that they're a member of a crime gang, and act accordingly.
Go Oglala Sioux on them.
A straphanger, really? How do you even burn a straphanger?
Straphanger is the proper term used in NYC for those who ride the subway standing up, holding on to the overhead straps to maintain their balance as the train bounces around. Trains will frequently be filled beyond the seating capacity. During rush hour, they may fill the standing area like sardines. Straphanger is not a derogatory term in the city.
As for the station at Houston and Varik streets, there is no street in Manhattan named after Sam Houston. It is pronounced House-ton street.
The Post usually gets everything right, but this is not called the Varick Street station. It’s the Houston Street station. Varick Street goes past several cross streets like Houston, which all have their stations named for them.
Yeah, my son lives in Brooklyn. That’s how he pronounces it.

Subway riders are called straphangers because they hold onto a hanging loop when standing up.
“That’s how he pronounces it.“
It has always amazes me that the original pronunciation has been maintained. How many examples are there of such a thing getting buried over time?
I know why it’s called that.
I think we should start a petition to ban the use of that word. I mean it’s way beyond banning the Land-O-Lakes Indian Lady, just think of all Endorsement Income Funds that She and Poor Little Aunt Jemima will never see !!!
And I have trouble now picking the right Pancake and Waffle Mix and Syrup at the Grocery Store so they’re now causing Me to worry about getting the right Nutritional Value that My body requires.
