Recall Aimed at ‘Progressive’ Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao Collects Enough Signatures

A recall effort aimed at “progressive” Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao has gathered enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot, organizers say — though they are still collecting signatures to ensure that they survive a challenge.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday:

The campaign, Oakland United to Recall Sheng Thao, known as OUST, has until July 22 to submit its signatures. Election officials then must make sure enough signatures are valid to trigger a recall, a process that could take up to two months.

OUST has obtained nearly 35,000 signatures since it began its effort in February, Brenda Harbin-Forte, a retired Alameda County Superior Court judge and recall leader, told the Chronicle. She said the group had independently verified more than 25,000 signatures, their threshold for putting the recall on the November ballot.

Will the residents just replace her with another dingbat? Otherwise, what's the point?

I you’re right but it’s just fun to se these self-important POS’s go down.
Maybe it’ll save us from having her elected to the legislature, which is the next step for these hacks

I suspect “election officials” will look at those signatures and declare too many as invalid and the entire petition will be tossed out.

This is exactly what happened in Los Angeles -twice - to the recall effort trying to get criminal-friendly DA Gascon out. The petitions - with MORE than enough signatures were declared “invalid.”

LA Times:

“A second effort to force Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón into a recall election fizzled out Monday after officials determined that the campaign to boot him from office failed to gain enough valid signatures.”

Good news is Gascon will lose in November to Nathan Hochman - unless mass vote fraud, which is a very real possibility.

True - but it was very very satisfying to see the smug San Francisco DA, Chesa Boudin, ousted in a recall. Add the lefty school board members who were also ousted.

Since the mayor got to pick a replacement for the DA, the new one isn’t much different from Boudin.

“Election officials then must make sure enough signatures are valid”

Now watch the crooked election officials dismiss many of the signatures as invalid.

Recall elections: we must validate every vote before it is counted

General elections: every vote is counted.

I suspect the recall has just gathered enough signatures to submit to the election bosses, who will most likely disqualify enough signatures to keep it off the ballot. It’s California, after all.
