In her forthcoming book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward she admitted to personally shooting her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, who was unsuitable for hunting due to her aggressive nature. Cricket also killed chickens, seemingly for the fun of it.

Kristi Noem did nothing unusual.
According to the ASPCA’s recent data, approximately 390,000 dogs are annually euthanized in its shelters. An estimated 2 million dogs die in “puppy mills” each year due to being unsellable or no longer able to breed. No doubt, the total is much larger if figures from veterinarians are included while numerous websites provide instructions on how to euthanize dogs at home without paying a vet. Clearly, the governor is not a sadistic nutcase, and she explains in her book that the purpose of telling this story is to show that she is willing to make tough decisions when necessary. Roughly three-plus million dogs are euthanized annually, and 20 years ago Kristi Noem killed one.
Why the outrage? After all, she did not torture her animals or exhibit any sadistic glee. Judging from her story, killing them was an act of last resort. Would anybody even notice if she had called a vet to euthanize them, gone fishing, and paid him for the services?

People condemn Governor Noem from killing a dog yet are unaware that the ASPC yearly kills hundreds of thousands of stray dogs. Who protests outside their shelters? Out of sight, out of mind. American public opinion might be vastly different if survey respondents had to make real, informed choices and this might reveal a more conservative picture of public opinion. If put in Kristi Noem’s shoes and given a shotgun, millions would likely dispatch Cricket to protect their children against further attack.

I have ZERO problems with what she did.
Anyone who grew up on a farm understands this.
My guess is that many times, an animal at the vet’s for the execution can probably smell it coming.
Kristi Noem committed a sin, the sin of not knowing that it’s not a level playing field. Democrats can get away with the most outrageous of things. Bill Clinton sexually assaulted women. Joe Biden is a serial liar. And a thousand more examples. No consequences.
But should a Republican do anything the least bit unacceptable, all hell breaks loose. That’s wrong. That’s unfair. But it’s also reality.
So Republicans need to play it smart, and be careful in what they say. Yes, that’s very unfair, as I noted. But it is what it is - so play it as smart as you can.
If you think you are blameless when you bring a dog to the pound you are clueless. Most dogs are euthanized the very day they are surrendered.
I had a friend who worked at the local animal shelter. He worked there because he loved animals. He spent most of his time euthanizing them. His girlfriend worked there too because she too loved animals, but likewise spent most of her time euthanizing them. She was so depressed by it that one day she jumped off a bluff.
If you are going to off a pet, do it yourself. Don’t force somebody else to do it.
That being said, the average urbanite in the U.S. is completely clueless about anything that doesn't happen on concrete with their only knowledge of animals being from Disney movies and their neighbor's cat that has never left the apartment. They're too ignorant and biased to understand why putting down a dog with a history of killing chickens is necessary, and they're not open minded enough to listen to the reasoning. Noem was tone deaf in not realizing this and how it would be used by the media. Any politician with national aspirations must be savvy enough to realize you can't put something like this out there without low information voters reacting this way.
And don’t forget to drag the goat out there and shoot it too. 😆
And then run out and accuse all the Indian tribes of dealing with the drug cartels. Go girl. 😆
Farm kid here. I know things. Did things.
Goats can be very dangerous.
Friend in high school was beat up by a barbado ram. Couple days in the hospital. Ram cooled down from a .308.
I could go on. City people have no clue.
Barbado is a sheep actually.
Donkeys, dogs, roosters, cats, cows can get ugly as well. I have been there and done the the deed. That’s life. Curl up in a fetal position and die or bow up and rectify. Hard rain gonna fall.
Yep.
One of my “Chores” in HS was to shoot rats in the barn.
One of the more enjoyable things I had to do!
Farm background for me.
You can’t be a lead guy if you ask other people to do jobs that you won’t do.
Asking somebody else to kill a bad dog is just cowardice unless you live in a city (trouble with the neighbors), or you just can’t do it for emotional reasons. If it’s emotional reasons you’d better be ready to step up for the next tough job.
What about shoveling manure, artificial insemination, treating ulcers on an eye or an udder?
I freely admit I can’t raise sheep ‘cause I can’t slaughter a lamb. I’ve done it, though, in case I decide I ought to run for office.
I understand your sentiment. I have had to have a few of my pets euthanized due to their decling bad health. I had a choice of allowing them to suffer in pain, or to die in my arms while the vet adminsitered the shot. I would not shoot one in the head. Maybe I am too much of a coward.
I hope you don’t run for office in NYC...!!!
I won’t even transit through the airports there.
lived there a year, could not wait to leave. Moved my family to Hong Kong to get away
Dead is dead.
