Trump zeroes in on 'unxpected' pick of Afghanistan veteran as 2024 running mate

Yet another Republican U.S. senator has caught former President Donald Trump's eye as he searches for a ticketmate to replace former Vice President Mike Pence.

The New York Times reported Friday that Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton has jumped to the top of Trump's list.

The 47-year-old Arkansas Republican was elected to the Senate in 2014 after serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.

The pick of Cotton would be unexpected because it would be bland.

Cotton joins other veepstakes contenders from the upper chamber including Sens. Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and J.D. Vance.

The presumptive Republican nominee is also considering North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who he brought to his recent mega-rally in Wildwood, New Jersey.

..

During an interview Thursday with News 12 Trump declined to name his top three VP picks.

'Well, we have so many, I don't want to do that,' the ex-president said after his rally in the Bronx.

Trump then commended Dr. Ben Carson, his former HUD secretary, Rubio, Vance and Rep. Elise Stefanik.

The ex-president said he would announce his choice 'sometime during the convention.'

The Republican National Convention is scheduled for mid-July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Trump also has a number of former 2024 rivals at his disposal.

His chief rival, former U.N. Amb. Nikki Haley, finally said this week that she would vote for Trump in the November election.

Trump supporters interviewed by DailyMail.com in New Jersey liked the idea of the ex-president picking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, another chief challenger.

DeSantis said months ago he wouldn't take the promotion - though more recently has started fundraising for Trump.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is also a favorite with the MAGA crowd - and at 38-years-old would bring youth to the ticket.

Ben Carson.. Raised by a single mother, headed for trouble in his youth, his mother introduced him to book reading..and reports. Knowledge made a difference.
He became a renowned pediatric doctor surgeon.
He is a Christian. He has used his position to send other youth to college. He is a calm devoted man who would bring a hope for the nation and a trust for Trump to do what has to be done to restore what has been destroyed.

I have to agree. We need to get behind Trump no matter WHO he picks for VP.. this is a DO OR DIE election folks!!!!! The more bad mouthing of a pick will only de-unify our party at this point.... I really like Elise... Ben Carson also. But it is who it is....and we must stand in UNITY...

Does your source indicate that Trump is planning on changing his residence away from Florida? Otherwise, Donalds and Rubio would not be possible...unless we are going to concede 30 electoral votes from the start, which would not be a winning strategy.

Cotton would be a great choice. One of the best under consideration besides DeSantis. Devin Nunes rates high for me as a dark horse too.

But those are all far to the right of Trump, and with all this talk of him wanting to actually try to win NY, it’ll probably be someone like Haley or Stefanik.

I think what you say is true, but less true over time as the reality of leftist globalism makes itself known to people.

When they experience a real economic crash and what it does to their bank accounts, they’ll do a one-eighty and support Trump. The talk is this will happen close to election time.

Confessing here that I couldn’t stand the thought of casting my vote for John McCain, I so disliked the man. When he picked Sarah Palin to be his running mate, it’s the only reason I did vote for him, because of her. And I think there were many others just like me. And the same would hold true in the case of who Trump picks. There are a lot of people who so dislike Trump, but would go and vote for him based on his choice of running mate.

“Cotton is part of the Neocon war machine. Hard Pass.”

I put him at the same level as Jordan. Weak. Probably compromised. Both started out hot, but then fizzled out.

I agree. The key to a good VP pick is how well the pick protects the President from being assassinated. In that case, I can think of no better candidate for Trump’s VP pick than Allen West.

I’m hoping Trump picks Kamala Harris. As we have seen, when you pick her you are immune to impeachments, investigations, and you don’t even have to listen to Congress or SCOTUS and can do what you want.

Well, Kamala Harris was a brilliant pick for Joe Biden, the only person stupider than him, but I think Trump should go for someone that scares them worse :)

Maybe you should just learn to read autocorrect. In fact why comment at all you know perfectly well what I meant but the comment, gripe about that not the spelling.
