How Russian and NATO armies would size up in a WW3 doomsday scenario: Interactive map shows how alliance compares to Putin's depleted forces after Moscow warned it was prepared for conflict on Ukraine's battlefields
The Daily Mail ^ | 16 May 2024 | David Averre

Russia's war in Ukraine has revealed to the world in graphic detail the smorgasbord of lethal technologies that can be used to destroy one's enemy in a large-scale 21st-century clash.

But despite all the capabilities of such cutting-edge military tech, Moscow's primary frontline tactic appears ripped from the playbook of World War I generals - batter Ukrainians with artillery before dispatching waves of soldiers to secure territory inch by blood-soaked inch.

It's a style of warfare reminiscent of the Battle of Passchendaele - but it has proved nonetheless effective with Vladimir Putin's forces gaining territory hand over fist in eastern Ukraine.

So, until the AI overlords of the future swoop in to do the heavy lifting for us, George S. Patton's observation that 'wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men' looks set to endure.

Patton was one of the United States' most revered generals, but it is in Russia where his axiom is perhaps best understood. It was only thanks to sheer Soviet manpower - and willingness to incur casualties on a scarcely believable scale - that the Allied powers were able to defeat the Nazis in World War II.

This fact is baked into Russia's collective memory and serves as a key ingredient in Vladimir Putin's existentialist rhetoric justifying his war in Ukraine as a necessary resistance against a threatening, expansionist West.

Now, this week's round in the East-West war of words saw Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov goad Western leaders and declare his forces are ready to take on NATO should the security alliance deploy its own troops on Ukrainian soil.

Rah, rah, Russki. Looks like the Zelensky poofters have held off the prison battalions of the Russian army so far.

Guess it would be a draw between the high heels and the Russian Army

Them darned ole Russkis have burned up a lot of the weaponry of NATO, and killed the Ukies by the bloody dumpster loads.

The crime of this war is the hiding of the actual Ukrainian casualties.

The former leader of the Ukraine, Little Vloddy, claimed at the end of February 2024 that there were 30,000 Ukrainian KIA.

This, while the Western Media is claiming that there are 500,000 dead Russians.

At an 8-to-1 artillery imbalance? - I don't think so, Tim.

Rah, rah, Russki. Looks like the Zelensky poofters have held off the prison battalions of the Russian army so far.

Shoigu told everyone what the plan was in back in fall 2022 - a war of attrition. They was gonna kill the Ukies till they ran out of Ukies to kill.

They've done a good job of just that.

A war of attrition against a tiny little nation.

God, to think we feared this nation for 50 years.

Depleted forces? Russia is only using 10% of its forces in Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of troops are waiting in reserve.

And, WW III would be NATO against the combined forces of at least Russia and China, two of the most formidable militaries in the world.

You Zeepers are insane. You really want WW III and nuclear war.

That is certainly the tactics they used in WWII also.

Almost every battle started with a massive artillery bombardment.

They sent troops into battle without weapons with instructions to pick one up from a fallen comrade. They also marched conscripts and convicts through minefields to clear the mines...the hard way.

Russian military tactics are not known for their compassion for the welfare of the troops.

A Russian war against NATO would be terrible for everyone, even though Russia bluffs with its hypersonic bombs, the problem for the Russians is that not only they have them; The other point in favor of the Russians is that China and Iran are at their side and surely also the hungry North Korea. But the truth is that a war at that level is not good for anyone so let's wait to see where the madman is who will give the voice to start the first attack.

Russia is notabout to expose what it is capable of. Russia could have already clearly decimated Ukraine if it was their intention.

What Russia does not want, I do not blame them, is NATO in Ukraine. Now ask yourself what is the purpose of NATO expansion? After all, isn’t there a UN?

Almost every battle started with a massive artillery bombardment.

I must admit though, those Katyusha Rockets made the most awesome sound.
