Moscow's primary frontline tactic appears ripped from the playbook of World War I generals - batter Ukrainians with artillery before dispatching waves of soldiers to secure territory inch by blood-soaked inch.

That is certainly the tactics they used in WWII also.

Almost every battle started with a massive artillery bombardment.

They sent troops into battle without weapons with instructions to pick one up from a fallen comrade. They also marched conscripts and convicts through minefields to clear the mines...the hard way.

Russian military tactics are not known for their compassion for the welfare of the troops.

I must admit though, those Katyusha Rockets made the most awesome sound.
