Poll: Ron DeSantis is preferred Donald Trump VP pick, with Marco Rubio far behind

Might the former President pick the wrong Florida man for his ticket?

Florida’s senior Senator may not offer former President Donald Trump as big a boost as some other potential running mates might … including the current Governor of Florida.

That’s the takeaway from the new Harvard-Harris Poll, which finds voters want Gov. Ron DeSantis and not Marco Rubio on the ticket.

DeSantis leads a host of potential picks with 12% top-choice support among the electorate, including 23% of Republicans, 7% of no-party voters, and 4% of Democrats.

Rubio has 4% support but just 3% among Republicans, 4% among no-party voters, and 5% among Democrats. He trails U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

Rubio would offer a net boost for the ticket, with 27% of respondents saying they’d be more likely to vote for him and 17% saying they’d be less likely. However, the pollster didn’t test the same question with DeSantis for unknown reasons.

With the electorate at large, Rubio is above water in favorability, with 36% saying they approve of him and 33% disapproving. But that doesn’t even make him the most popular Florida Republican nationally.

That honor goes to DeSantis, at +6 with 43% approval against 37% disapproval.

DeSantis has ruled out being Trump’s running mate at various points for over a year, making the question moot unless the Governor is reconsidering his position amid a thaw with the Trump operation.

Carson is a better pick

We are in a Civil War and need a war time President AND VP.

Carson is too meek & mild to be a war time leader.

Marco “I voted for the Gang of 8 bill” Rubio.

Total phony.

Along with Tim “I endorse Lisa Murkowski” Scott.

Desantis is ok. But not great.

Trump is going to pick DeSantis for VP as soon as Trump learns to juggle flaming chainsaws while ice skating.

I dont think its even possible for two people from the same state to run it will create problems..besides, let DeSantis continue as governor til 2028 he can run for President again, Florida doesn’t need to risk a dem taking over the Governorship

Both Florida residents. I guess DJT could declare New Jersey as his legal residence.

Sarah Sanders might not be a bad choice. She’s articulate enough to make Kamala look like the fool she is. She’s conservative but not “in your face” about it. Probably would be acceptable to the RINOs although they’d likely rather have soneone else. She radiates competence. If something were to happen to Trump, and she had to step into the Presidency, I don’t think people would be worried she isn’t up to the task. And she might help with the womens’ vote.

Well, Trump should pick Byron Donalds. I like the guy. He's charismatic, a legit conservative and he has worked his tail off for Trump. He would be a home run pick, IMO.

Carson, if he ever had to take the helm, would be rolled over even more than Biden is.

She is the best candidate.

MAGA is supposed to support meritocracy.

She has the most merit.

I wouldn’t pick either one. If I had to, I’d pick Rubio.

Puhleeze! NO little Marco Rubio!

I’m thinking he’s leaning towards Ron. One of them would have to move but it would make one heck of a strong MAGA ticket.
