Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker said Friday that his “heart is broken in a thousand pieces” after his daughter and son-in-law were taken hostage then later killed by a gang in Haiti.
Natalie and Davy Lloyd were among a group of missionaries who were ambushed as they left a church on Thursday, the nonprofit Missions in Haiti Inc. wrote on Facebook.
A gang of “3 trucks full of guys” whisked the group away, the nonprofit, which is run by Davy’s parents, David and Alicia Lloyd, wrote in a frantic Facebook post calling for “urgent prayers.”
“Davy was taken to the house tied up and beat. The gang then took our trucks and loaded everything up they wanted and left. Another gang came after to see what was going on and if they could help, so they say. No one understood what they were doing, not sure what took place but one was shot and killed and now this gang went into full attack mode.”
Davy and Natalie tried to use an internet connection to call Davy’s parents, the nonprofit’s post continued. “So they are holed up in there, the gangs has shot all the windows out of the house and continue to shoot,” the post added. “Their lives are in danger. I have been trying all my contacts to get a police armored car there to evacuate them out to safety but can’t get anyone to do. I also am trying to negotiate with the gang so how much $ to stand down and let them leave and get to safety. PLEASE PRAY- Going to be a long night. The phones have all died I can’t get a hold of anybody for the past several hours now to know what was going on.”
However, a follow-up post three hours later said, “Davy and Natalie and Jude were shot and killed by the gang about 9 o’clock this evening.”
Baker wrote on Facebook that he had “never felt this kind of pain.”
Violence has reached fever pitch in Haiti in the weeks since a new prime minister was announced last month, and kidnappings of missionaries and other foreigners are extremely common.
But just two weeks ago, Missions in Haiti said they felt the situation was stabilizing as the U.S. military sent personnel and equipment, and a Kenya-led international force was slated to arrive later in May.
“It may be the worst is behind us now and better days ahead,” the group wrote on Facebook. “We are believing this is the case and Haiti is coming out of this dark time.”
Five days ago, the group said things had calmed down even further. “Gang activity still happening with looting and destruction, but much less then before,” they wrote. “...For the past 2 weeks we have watched US military planes fly over several times a day. They are flying in equipment and supplies for the international force that is coming. It is reported the first 200 troops from Kenya are to land this week. Some gangs are realizing their rule is about to come to an end. 3 gang guys that come to the bakery for bread a couple times a week, I asked them what their plans are. They said ‘run to the Dominican Republic when the fighting starts.’”
“The end result seems to be cheap virtue-signaling.”
Virtue signaling makes folks feel good.
It is an addictive high like drugs—and can be just as dangerous.
Amen!
What a way to meet The Lord!
They got three Crowns the way I read it.
Such is the attitude of the lost.
Ironically, their lives are wasted.
“Why bother trying to explain it to them?”
I pretty much don’t try to explain. Usually end with “You don’t get it. It’s not your fault.” It’s what’s in a person’s heart that gives them the potential to understand.
I like the poster — can’t recall which one — who gives more importance to a life with his “hot wife” than with God. 🙄
Fox’s Book of Martyrs
“Foxe’s” was in Dad’s study and I read it in high school. Sobering, to say the least.
Thank you for your post. I appreciated the link to the missionary website. It does look like they have something beautiful going on there. Hence I could see why the devil would want to come after it. God triumphs in the end though.
The person who has received God's gracious gift of eternal life has already been judged at the cross, and all of his/her sin debt paid for by the currency of the Blood of Jesus that was shed there, and completely forgiven and mercifully forgotten. That is why I used the word "existence" and not in this context "body."
Yet, understanding from the whole context of Scripture regarding soteriology as it ties in with eschatology, Several things are happening in the transaction that takes place at the moment a new entity is begotten in the spiritual realm by the fruition of God's generative seed (1 John 3:9), which is the Spoken Word of God (Rom. 10:17).
However, though or fleshly bodies still exist in this realm, its "old (hu)man" has died. Both the new spiritual entity and one's soul (completely changed by its new point of view, Isaiah 1:18) still exist in the old husk, as well as the Spirit of God Who is now welcomed as a loving, disciplining guide of both thinking and actions arising from one's beliefs.
This new spiritual integral constituent of the new person (2 Cor. 5:17) bridges the two realms, being both in the temporal worldly realm, water-baptized into a local imperfect fallible assembly of humans professing allegiance to Christ and also in the timeless heavenly spiritual realm at once, having been spiritually baptized into the perfect infallible Church of The First-Born Son of God as one of is members of whom Jesus is their Lord and Master according to each having freely chosen to enlist as a permanent member of His Army f Saints.
From the temporal aspect, the redeemed risen recruit that still exits in the fleshly body cannot simultaneously possess a spiritual body. Physical death is the withdrawal of the human's continuing rational soul and spirit away from the now non-functioning flesh machine, with that person transitioning either to Hades or Paradise (Lk. 16:19-26), being sentient but without the spiritual body promised to come later. Presence in the spiritual realm does not necessarily imply absence of a personality in the temporal dimension.
In answer to your question, what I am proposing is that spiritual birth is permanent, and that portion of the new being that invests the physical body is one with the portion that exists in the Paradise of heave, assembling with other such entities as the Church of the First-Born told of in Hebrews 12:22-24, which only currently exists only in Heaven in the Kingdom of God/Christ and nowhere else.
While on earth and still in a human body, the truly saved person has the temporal use of it to further God's interests in this realm as long as He desires. When the body gives out, or the person can no longer have an effect temporally, I believe He withdraws on out of the body and out of the udens of the natural realm, to have fellowship with Him and other kindred spirits, without a spiritual body until the fullness of time, whence all those of which The Bride and the Friends of the Bride will be instantly be clothed with a new humanoid body (1 John 3:1-2).
What I say is that what I said about Davy and Natalie Lloyd in Post #134 is true, that the sill exist as before in therms of soulish personality-limited qualities that define each, yet now without a body (Colossians 3:1-3), have a future of accompanying Jesus wherever He goes (1 Thess. 4:12-5:2, Col. 3:4), no longer burdened with the groans of progressive sanctification (Col. 3:5; Rom. 8:18-23,36-39), and fit for unalloyed service to the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings (1 Cor. 6:2-3, Rev. 20:6).
Look to it, my FRiend!
They have not yet been thus terrorized by the revelation of God's Well-earned Righteous Wrath against them, PERSONALLY.
Not one of them is a "good" person. Job's book detailing the Plan of Salvation shows that he finally figured that out.
Two words fix that
“For God’s Sake, Please Stop The Aid!”
Years ago some newly elected president of some African country said basically just that. He talked about trying to establish clothing manufacturers so people could earn money. Money they could use to buy local products - like clothing. But with the shiploads of clothing from “aid” organizations they couldn’t compete.
Which in no way cancels out the GWT judgement that is coming.
Scripture disagrees with the claim, accepted by millions, that believers are in heaven RIGHT NOW.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Then the ‘president’ needs to TAX the incoming aid until they CAN ‘compete’.
Sorry to disappoint you, but:
First, read and digest Romans 6. I have, and have re-memorized it for the third time in 40 years since Bill Gothard's challenge at the end of his IBLP Basic Seminar back in the '8os. It fully confirms OSAS, and leaves no questions unanswered.
Secondly, remember the whole gospel that cannot be reduced further, but may be expanded: I do all the sinning, Jesus does all the saving. Like it or not, to disbelieve that is to fail in being fully persuaded about Jesus' faithfulness as Job and Abraham were.
Thirdly, having never failed on me, Jesus' Spirit speaking to me in the Scripture promised:
"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Heb. 13:5 AV)Wherever He is, there I am also; and vice versa. The spiritual entity that is me also extends into the temporal dimension from which my fleshly body sensors cannot see into the spiriual coordinates, but He has awakened and opened the "eyes" of my understanding as he did for His disciples (Lk. 24:31,45; 1 Cor. 2:15,16) that I might understand and ruminate on the message in His Scriptures (Mt. 4:4, Lk. 4:4, Ps. 1).
I know of OSAS beyond the promise(es) because of proven experience. No one will ever draw me back into the Arminianism of Wesley's doctrine that doesn't actually save as it purports to do; nor in that of Calvin whose depravity is so dark and deep that it is inescapable, that the non-meritorious single willful decision can never be made by a human, though that person was created in the image of God, able to make salutary decisions guided by His prophets (Isaiah 1:18-20).
I am fully confident that the spiritual entity is me, and that I exist in the non-figurative Heavenly Kingdom of God as His spirit-begotten child and member of the Heaven-only Ekklesia headed by the First-Born Begotten-in-the-Flesh-by-The-Father-Manifestation High Priest Jesus, Lord and Messiah; and that Jehovah Elohim has entrusted me the task of being an ambassador to the unsaved worldlings, to herald the soul-warning message that tells how to escape God's oncoming Holy Wrath by means of relying only on Jesus' Blood to wash away sins, together with His Righteousness imputed to the petitioner so that the regenerative seed of His Word could and would come to fruition in one's soul, the reasoning of which has been decidedly, willfully, and permanently changed, as His omniscient foresight has affirmed.
Go ahead, reject this conclusion, if you wish. Other than that narrative, I have nothing else to give you. But no one on this earth will ever rob Jesus of this my soul that He has purchased with His Blood to possess, and to which I have once for all time agreed, that He would permanently keep me alive, and growing in grace and in the knowledge of my Lord and Friend, Jesus Christ.
You may think whatever you want regarding the term :sleep" in the passages you cite, but as I see it, it only means the same thing I now experience every night. My physical temporal body as observed looks immobile, but inside in a mode devised by God, my soul and spirit is alive and seeing in dreams something exists that one cannot touch, or by muscle cannot move. That vision exists in another dimension, but is awake. Why would not that be similar to the circumstance that in the temporal realm, the soul and spirit are now absent from the non-functional body, but entirely sentient and alive in the spiritual realm, until in the fulness of time when the soul and spirit will be clothed by a new imperishable spiritual "tent" (2 Cor. 5:1,2) like the one occupied by Jesus when he appeared and was present with Hs disciples after His resurrection?
Lastly, as a further note, I will never rely on any translations, literal or dynamic in interpretation, arising from any New Testament textform but the Byzantine/Majority one; certainly not that based on the corrupted synthesized never-before-seen textform offered by Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort, styled as "critical" or "eclectic" and declared as "best" and rendered in method by modern liberal translators.
The Siniatic distracting corrupting discoveries of Constantin (von) Tischendorf have only led them astray in their effort to gain fame (I suppose) in flaunting their "scholarship," which seminarians succumbed to, hook, line, and sinker for generations, only now being quite misleading regarding the doctrine of God's ability to preserve His Own Scriptures without their help, but relying on the multiplicity of local assemblies to copy and keep watchfully secure whatsoever Jesus had commanded them, never making changes at all, pillars and ground of The Truth, spoken of by Paul (1 Tim. 3:15), a greater trained theologian and disciple-maker than them all.
There is little in English that is superior to the Crown-Authorized Empire-guiding English Version, commonly known as KJV.
Well, here ya go. I don’t know how we’ve vectored away from the GWT judgement to OSAS, but here’s the scripture to which you referred .
Romans 6 King James Version
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
{No one will ever draw me back into the Arminianism of Wesley’s doctrine that doesn’t actually save as it purports to do;}
HMMMmmm...
I pray that this young couple actually reached someone with the story of Jesus.
The gospel of Jesus Christ when delivered to people will always has the same effect on people. It will make some murderously angry, it will be laughed at, and it will save some. Read the book of Acts to see this.
But it must be the full gospel including conviction of sin before it actually turns people around. People who come and spend the whole time just doing benevolent projects are not “missionaries of the gospel”.
