NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville councilmembers have rejected plans for a glowing sign to be erected at Morgan Wallen’s new bar along the city’s neon-lit strip of honky tonks, citing his use of a racial slur that caused controversy in 2021 and recent criminal charges accusing the country star of throwing a chair off a rooftop near two police officers.
The Nashville Metro Council voted 30-3 Tuesday evening against the proposed sign at Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, which is set to open this weekend. The sign would have hung over a public sidewalk, similar to those at many neighboring bars. Such a sign requires local government approval and usually isn’t a controversial process.
During debate, councilmembers called Wallen’s comments hateful and his actions harmful. They also said the performer has received multiple second chances.

He is a marginally talented white trash singer. He got drunk recently and tossed a metal chair off of the roof of his Broadway bar in Nashville. Thankfully, nobody got struck by it-or he would be facing prison time.
The best way I heard him described is that his music is “country” for meth-heads who think stealing copper is a career option.
Wardaddy ping. If anyone here knows the scoop on this, he should.
I'm sure that didn't help matters.
Nashville is devolving into Cali/Vegas neo pagan decadence. It has become the hedonism capital of the South. Morgan is a bit of a lowlife. However the city council set itself up for a lawsuit since by its own admission it violated the US constitution and Morgan’s civil rights citing punishment for his speech in denying the sign permit. Morgan’s lawyer should be able to get damages for him.
And the thing that jumped out at me was a 33 person council.
WTH!?
That is plainly stupid. Way too many people if you ask me.
Wait... It’s not???
Especially if he didn't grovel, apologize and repent publicly.
He’s also tbe ding dong that got heard loudly calling his buddy the “N woid” and the country music establishment tried to cancel him for it. It just made him more popular. I dislike his stuff, its whiny new country bs.
“Such a sign requires local government approval and usually isn’t a controversial process. “
This should be an admin task. Does the requested sign meet the local rules, then OK, if not, then no sign.
Modern day version of David Allan Coe..................
One of the biggest country stars in the world right now.
They tried to cancel him after he said the same word that rappers say a hundred times in every rap song on record.
It didn't work. Last summer he played two sold out back-to-back shows at the San Diego's Padre's stadium while I was living a block away. Never saw so many hot chicks in one place in my life!
The lines to get into his bar just got a lot longer.
Hah, you think we still live in The Land of the Free?
LOL! Yep! All the country radio stations blacklisted his songs, only to quickly discover that nobody listens to country radio stations anymore.
And the thing that jumped out at me was a 33 person council.
Do they resemble the typical NBA Team?
Funny. Country is thriving here in the rural parts of Florida.
Just cuz y’all don’t care for it doesn’t mean it universally derided. You’re as closed minded as any leftist.
Wallen’s career absolutely exploded after his “dust up,” and he’s won several CMAs. He doesn’t sing about racism. He’s an old fashioned country singer crooning about lost love and having fun out in the woods.
Very popular. Some of the hits on his first “record” sounded a lot like ‘70’s Alabama. Some incorporate a bit of country rap. Many were written by another writer/rising artist named Hardy.
He apparently likes his liquor a bit too much.
That got me too. By comparison, the CA State Senate only has 40 members, and I think lots of legislative upper houses across the country are of similar size. Nashville has its own legislature going
...and saved him the money for the sign.
