Convicted Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton, who killed over 20 women, has been hospitalized and is in life-threatening condition after an assault at a Quebec prison, authorities said Tuesday.
The 74-year-old was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2007, with the maximum parole ineligibility period of 25 years, after being charged with the murders of 26 women.
The remains or DNA of 33 women, many picked up from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, were found on Pickton's pig farm in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Prosecutors previously said Pickton told an undercover officer planted in his jail cell that he killed 49 women and intended to make it "an even 50."
Vancouver police were criticized for not taking the cases seriously because many of the missing were sex workers or drug users.
The Correctional Service Canada first announced on Monday that an inmate had been sent to hospital after a serious assault at the maximum security Port-Cartier Institution, about 300 miles northeast of Quebec City.

Whoever assaulted him needs to step up their game.
Any profiles or history on the dead women? What were they like? Did they have dreams of a happy life and future. Did they have a family that loved them?
I thought the broken broom handle in the head was a nice touch.

They should have followed the example of Dahmer’s killer.
Pickton is one of the most disgusting demons I ever heard of.
He’s right down there with David Parker Ray (the “toybox murderer”) and Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris (the “toolbox murderers”) in terms of being lower than the mind can conceive.
He had access to significant financial resources, and lived on a large pig farm owned by his family.
Bummer. I hope he recovers, so his fellow inmates can beat him to death a few more times. It will provide him with a warmup for eternity in hell.
What’s a shame, is that he is still breathing.
Give the attacker an extra helping of meatloaf.
The astonishing thing about many of these sociopaths is the way so many of them crave social contact, even with the scum of the earth degenerates they share a prison with, to the point they risk their own lives by not insisting on being segregated from other prisoners, as is their right. And it’s not like they’re suicidal, since there are plenty of ways they could do away with themselves.
Isn’t this the guy they made an episode of on criminal minds?
There is a movie about this creep called The Pig Farm which was on Amazon Prime for a while, it was pretty good telling about what this guy did.
Oh that’s so sad. NOT!!! But I hope he survives, for another 19 beatdowns like this one.
