I’m pretty sure that to make this happen both state legislatures would have to agree to it.. so any individual county votes are just symbolic.

Let’s make secession a national issue.

All the red areas, even if surrounded by blue areas, should be given the choice to secede. Chances are that, even the blue areas would opt to become red areas, as they wouldn’t be able to support their own idiotic progressive policies.

Nearly every state in the union would be free if they left the major cities. Oregon is run by Portland. Washington is run by Seattle. Montana (God help us) is run by californicators in Whitefish and Missoula. Pick just about any state and it is the same. One or two s hole cities control the rest of a conservative population.

There is a book I read American Secession. Inadequate but covers good ground.

His boring book covers the main problems of secession:
Who will be forced to pay for the military protection in the defense budget, who will pay part of the national debt, which federal laws apply and do not apply and so on.

One good point of his: people are getting increasingly hateful against each other and no one wants to be near the people they hate the most.

He said as the book came out in January, 2020:
we should invest in UHaul style moving truck companies because people will soon move from one political majority state to another if there is not an outright civil war.
That has come true and is increasing.

He is not related to the better people William F. and James Buckley.

Portion of the Encounter Books synopsis:
A cordial divorce might be worked out through the amending machinery of a convention held under Article V of the Constitution, if all sections of America were good and tired of each other. Secession cannot be unconstitutional when there’s a constitutional way of making it happen, through a constitutional convention.

Finally, the Supreme Court might revisit its denial of a right of secession. The originalists on the Court would recognize that the Framers had thought that states had the right to secede, while the more politically minded members of the Court might hesitate before ruling secession illegal and permitting the president to make war against a state

I wish them a speedy success. Then do the same thing in CA, IL, NY, and other shathole leftist states. Let the cities they destroyed implode.

Thinking Boise is pretty woke. And more wokenistas moving there to escape the wildness they were in. ‘Ya know, we didn’t do it like that back in xxx.’

Unfortunately, there is no mechanism which would allow a portion of a state to secede from the state. Those in power in the state will never readily agree to let a portion of the state go because that would mean less tax revenue and fewer votes in Congress....and giving up power is anathema to those who seek it.

I think there should be a mechanism for counties to secede from states. There are numerous instances of one area being completely out of step with the rest of the state. For example:

The 3 "mountain" counties of Maryland want to join West Virginia

Much of the rest of Virginia would like to kick out Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties aka "Occupied Northern Virginia" which are just DC Suburbs.

The rest of Illinois hates Chicago.

The rest of Minnesota hates Minneapolis-St.Paul

a lot of upstate New York hates NYC

A lot of the rest of Washington hates Seattle

a lot of the rest of Pennsylvania hates Philly

Much of the rest of Michigan hates Detroit

What states don’t have is something like the electoral college.
That was designed to offset the power of cities.
The founders knew how how cities fuck$d up their countries.

If there’s a flaw in the design of our nation’s founding, it seems the founders did not anticipate that cities and counties would have so much influence on a whole state.

We need some mechanism to dilute the disproportionate power of metro areas. We have examples through history demonstrating this phenomenon.
