Federal Court Rules Maryland Parents Cannot Opt Children Out of LGBT Lessons
The Iowa Standard ^ | 05/20/2024 | Family Research Council

Despite national attention and thousands of protesting parents, a federal court is refusing to allow parents to opt their children out of LGBT courses in school. The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals decided on Wednesday that Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland does not have to allow parents to opt their children out of LGBT-themed lessons. Judge G. Steven Agee, a George W. Bush appointee, claimed that the parents seeking to opt their children out of the lessons in question did not provide sufficient evidence to justify a preliminary injunction.

In March of last year, MCPS added nearly two dozen “LGBTQ+ inclusive texts” to the pre-K through 8th grade curriculum. According to a lawsuit filed in May, parents were told that “no notice will be given” of when LGBT-themed lessons will be taught and that “no opt-outs [will be] tolerated because [students] must learn to be more ‘LGBTQ-Inclusive.’” The federal lawsuit was brought by a group of Christian and Muslim parents who wished to remove their children from LGBT-themed lessons on religious grounds. Over 1,000 parents — including Catholic, Ethiopian Orthodox, evangelical, Muslim, and Jewish parents — attended a subsequent MCPS board meeting to protest the decision to rescind parental opt-outs.

Then, in August, Biden-appointed U.S. District Court judge Deborah Boardman ruled against Maryland parents, claiming that mandatory LGBT lessons do not constitute a religious liberty infringement. She wrote that reading books about transgenderism, drag queens, and bondage fetishes to children as young as three “is not indoctrination” and does not “directly or indirectly” coerce children into activity “that violates their religious beliefs.” Instead, she suggested that concerned parents — who, according to the policy Boardman sanctioned, have no notice of when these lessons are being taught — discuss the lessons with their children at home after school...

Luke 17: 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot [Sodom and Gamorrah]; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Maryland Parents, here on the shore, will be putting their children into parochial schools.

DO NOT TRUST the so called Catholic schools. For decades they wanted govt monies and forced public Drug Education courses on their souls. This govt money will have the LGBT attached to it.

What they’re saying is that the citizens don’t control the government but the government controls the citizens. Exactly upside down.

That is a very wise response but even parochial schools are often contaminated. This kind of indoctrination and interference meant to forcibly distort children’s moral compass is child abuse and those responsible should be prosecuted and removed from positions involving contact with children.

This has always been the goal - replace the parents with the government. The government wants the kids away from their parents as soon as possible. Why do you think they want government run daycare also.

Too late. Homeschooling is the only answer. Collective homeschooling works also, where neighborhood parents with common interests teach the children as a shared collaborative effort. It’s actually easier to homeschool six than just one.

“International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights”

“Article 18
....
The States Parties to the present Covenant undertake to have respect for the liberty of parents and, when applicable, legal guardians to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions.”

https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/ccpr.pdf

The Covenant is international law that the US has agreed to abide by.

The federal government does not care about the rights of Christians or Jews.

But what will happen when (not if, but when) a Muslim family demands that their kids be excluded from this LGBT nonsense? I’ll bet you a dollar the Muslim family will be accommodated.

This would be a great project for an investigative journalist to research.
(Are there any investigative journalists left?)

Low-Tuition Cost Private School Models

Many of our fellow Americans live in areas where leftists have poisoned the school systems.

TRADITIONAL TEACHER MODEL

My primary model would have about twenty kids in a class and a tuition of around $4,000/year/student.

Each teacher would set his/her tuition rate and maximum class size and handle student admission. Homeowner associations might host hook-up events for teachers, parents and prospective students. Tuition might be paid monthly for affordability and two months in advance (so it won’t be problem for the teacher if the parents have a major car repair bill one month).

Men and women who have good English and math skills but lack high-value technical skills might choose to become such teachers.

Teachers might provide their SAT scores and college transcript information to prospective parental customers. Independent certification authorities might thoroughly test the teachers and issue report cards.

Classrooms might be set up in commercial space no longer usable for retail stores because of excessive minimum wages or shrinkage.

A classroom might have four rows of five students each and might be around 1,000 square feet in size.

The curriculum might be based on a traditional state model, a current state model, a proprietary model or the teacher’s own handiwork.

PARENTAL ASSISTANCE MODEL

The Parental Assistance Model would have a parent of each child assist the teacher for a period of two weeks each school year.

The teacher would provide necessary training for the parents during several weekends prior to the school year.

Parents who don’t have the time or skill to fulfill their responsibilities would have to pay and arrange for substitutes. At 35 hours a week for two weeks at $30/hour with employer taxation, hiring a substitute might cost $1050. High-income parents would often seek low-income household parents to substitute, thereby helping the low-income household parents pay tuition.

PARENT TEACHER MODEL

The Parental Teacher Model would be the lowest cost form. It would have a parent of each child be a teacher for a period of two weeks each school year.

Parents looking to participate would obtain the necessary training and certification from a specialized training organization over about 100 classroom hours prior to the school year. This organization or another would obtain and maintain the physical classroom space.

Parents who don’t have the time or skill to fulfill their responsibilities would have to pay or arrange for substitutes.

PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION FUNDING by SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX REBATE

To assist parents in paying tuition and to be fair to the parents, the amount of school taxes they (and perhaps the parents’ parents) pay on their residence(s) might be rebated.

Eventually, rebates might be paid for past year tuition as well, so if parents pay $8,000/year tuition for two kids and $3,000/year in school taxes, the $5,000/year difference could be rebated to the parents in the years after their kids graduate.

It is no longer possible for Republicans to reform systems at the federal level, so Republicans must enact state-level reforms.

“What they’re saying is that the citizens don’t control the government but the government controls the citizens. Exactly upside down.”

What it says is the tyrants wearing black robes no longer administer the law as written in the Constitution or passed by the elected legislature. They have become the dictatorial enforcers for the unelected regulatory bureaucracy.

“Universal Declaration of Human Rights

“Article 26
1. Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
2. Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
3. Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.”

https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/UDHR/Documents/UDHR_Translations/eng.pdf

That is not legally binding within the US, but US officials out of compliance with international law who are in a foreign country might be made subject to court proceedings.

Muslim family was part of the lawsuit.

This Judge doesn’t understand about planting the seeds of thoughts into little kids.

I hope they can appeal the Judges decision. Especially the parents will not be told what day/s topics will be taught
