Yes, I do like the version that you posted—it has that “Truman era” (or, being conservative, I should say “Robert A. Taft era”) sound that I really like.

I found out through some quickie sleuthing that it is from the movie “The Jolson Story” and that the orchestra backing Al Jolson was conducted by Carmen Dragon, who conducted the Whittier Union High School District Honor Band in its 1969 annual concert. The Honor Band consisted of the top instrumentalists in the district—I tried out for it but didn’t make the cut. They always tried to get a celebrity to conduct the concert.

Dragon also had a radio show that he always concluded by announcing, “today is the first day of the rest of your life.”
