King Charles III marked another first in his reign this week, unveiling the first official portrait of himself since his coronation last year.
Charles and his wife Queen Camilla were on hand Tuesday as the king's portrait was unveiled at Buckingham Palace.
The portrait, which stands over 6 feet tall, was painted over the course of three years by Jonathan Yeo, a U.K.-based artist, according to the palace.
The painting features a striking red background and shows Charles wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards, of which he was made Regimental Colonel in 1975, according to the palace.

It reminds me of that ugly portrait of Obama in the leaves.
The artist did manage to capture his sausage fingers rather well.
You win the thread.
That’s terrible, too.
I agree…..the ugliest sculpture EVER .
….
REDRUM.
That’s terrible, too. It looks like a paint by number picture you can get at a craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
Lucien Freud (distant relative of the psychiatrist) captured the essence of the Queen very well, but the result is not necessarily nice to look at. He used his familiar impasto, technique, with thick application of paint and a harsh treatment of light. Most his work is like this, roughly rendered, but accurate.
I am reminded of when Han Solo was encased in that carbon stuff that froze him.
Even his Father hated him!
He must be leaking a lot of blood.
You would think that, if you had a $300 million fortune, that we know about and probably much more that we don’t know about, you could afford somebody with talent.
Charles the Red King
Took 3 years to come up with that?????
Well, he did say at one time that he wanted to be a tampon.
Exactly my mother’s reaction; she said the whole thing looked hellish.
This painting is just a throwback to when Prince Charles told the future Queen Camilla that he wished he was a Tampax in her knickers.
Why do so many heads of state, etc pay for ugly impressionistic portraits of themselves instead of something that looks like they are real people in a real setting? Do they think that kind of “art” is cool? I’m no art expert, but I do know s*** on a canvas when I see it-king Chuck should demand his money back-get another portrait done by an artist who knows how to make the customer look good in the real world...
As a starving hobby artist (painter), I must say....
.... this is one of the most hideous, ugliest painting I’ve ever seen!
