Churchgoers thwarted a teenager armed with a rifle from entering a Louisiana church full of children Saturday in a service that was being livestreamed, authorities said.
Police were called to St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville, 20 miles south of Lafayette, at 10:35 a.m. when the 16-year-old suspect tried to get in via the back door.

This happened on the same Sunday about 60 children were planning to take their First Communion.
I’m Catholic, so I know how important that day was for the kids and their families.
First Communion is the first of seven sacraments a follower of this faith are expected to go through during a lifetime. There are seven sacraments, including marriage and extreme unction, or a final blessing before death. A Catholic child is expected to study their catechism and memorize certain prayers, such as The Apostles Creed. The participants in this first sacrament are usually 7 or 8 years old.
I hazily recall going through this myself at age 7.
I wore a dark blue suit, white shirt, blue tie and cufflinks. Followed by donuts and pancake breakfast. My family were equally dressed up.
The whole family is invited to witness this ceremony.
Wow.
I used to like Kay Kyser, Glenn Miller and other big bands and their movies and records. This was in my late teens when I was supposed to like rock (1960s). Learned to love rock later on, though.
Now that I think of it, Baptism is the actual first of the Sacraments. Oops.
My grandma was a pack rat and there is sheet music at the homestead back to WWI era. There is SO much of it that is 100% NOT PC.
I can believe it.
Christians are being killed en masse in Nigeria, and now Armenia. Churches burned and/or desecrated in Canada and even here in America. Hostility towards and mockery of believers all through the media and entertainment outlets here. Netflix, anyone? Nothing good or holy there, frequent mockery of God and Christians. Our culture is a cesspool of paganism and perversion.
Yup. The gators should have eaten well that night.
Sixty kids taking first communion at once is quite a lot in this day and age.
All of that is, sadly, false teaching. However, I would have in a heartbeat shot that teenager dead, if determined he was trying to kill those children. If it were a room full of Palestinian children, same thing. This sort of thing must be brought to a complete halt somehow.
Sad that churches will have to hire armed security now and station them at entrances and exits. Metal detectors next up? The hatred towards believers and worshippers has to be put down in no uncertain terms. This is unacceptable in America! Enough!

“..Abbeville is in the heart of Cajun country. I’m surprised the youth survived the encounter....”
That, it is.
There’s a church not very far from there that IF the so-called “teen” had selected that church instead, it would no longer be breathing God’s good air today.
It would have been a complete “suicide by church” situation.
Thank you.
Surely could have been a blood bath. More details need to be made public. We also need to reopen mental institutions and keep these crazy people locked up and away from the rest of us.
Exactly. A massacre was no doubt prevented here. We need to know everything about this ‘teen’. His background, his rifle, his ammunition, his intentions, motive, etc.
Was he known already to law enforcement? Did he have a mentor in one of the alphabet agencies of the regime?
Maybe he was planning to go out after Sunday school and shoot something to put in his gumbo.
Take your crap someplace else.
Bet the “teen” was on the FBI’s radar.
It occurs to me that this sort of situation calls for Knights of Columbus armed with “modern self-defense rifles”.
No ... it is true teaching. Sadly, some folks don't agree with it.
