Child support payments would start with pregnancy under new bill from Alabama Sen. Katie Britt

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama introduced a bill today that would require child support throughout pregnancy and create a clearinghouse of adoption and anti-abortion pregnancy crisis centers to combat decreasing birth rates.

Britt introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act (MOMS Act) alongside co-sponsors Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.). Britt said the bill is an effort to strengthen support for pregnant women and new moms.

“This legislation is further evidence that you can absolutely be pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family at the same time,” Britt said. “The MOMS Act advances a comprehensive culture of life, grows and strengthens families, and ensures moms have the opportunities and resources needed so they and their children can thrive and live their American Dreams.”

The bill comes amid a decline in birth rates in the United States. Only 3.6 million babies were born in 2023, the lowest number since 1979, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a press release, Britt said she introduced her bill to support pregnant women and moms to reverse that decline. One major component would require states to extend child support obligations during pregnancy.

The pregnant woman can point at any man with $$ and claim he is the father - the courts will then force payments.

Can’t see this working out well.

My experience is that new laws cause more problems than they solve.

the NET effect is NEGATIVE.

On the other hand, it may be a financial life ring for the mother and avoid an abortion. So what to do?

I’m for involving the father from conception in terms of support; it gives him yet more standing in a decision whether to abort or not.

Shouldn’t one be wary of a sexual encounter outside of marriage that can result in a pregnancy, assuming it’s an unwanted pregnancy. Even in a marriage, for that matter.

DNA test should be done on every birth before the BC is signed.
All marriages that end in divorce should be 50/50 child custody and no child support from either parent there by removing the financial reasons for a divorce.
Unless It can be proven a parent is incapable of unwilling to be a responsible provider then no money should be changing hands.

Fine… and at that moment of establishing paternity and taking cash, does the woman lose all rights to abort? If she takes 9 months of child support and aborts does she have to repay it?

This is about the kind of numbskull legislation I’d expect from Katie Britt.

A better balanced and actually scientific take on the issue.

They have noninvasive DNA testing now, the baby’s dna is detectable in the mother’s blood,so it only requires a blood test. Amniocentesis is old technology.

As if men don’t generally get enough of a short straw in all
matters post pregnancy.

Can’t believe they haven’t gotten down to mutilating men’s
anatomy yet.

I didn’t have any paternity tests but I looked at my kids feet for sure. My feet have predominantly longer middle toes than the big toe. My wife’ toes are descending in size from the big toe. The second thing I checked later on was there hereditary ability to roll their tongue like me. The wife cannot, but they can, like me.

Literally neither of those traits would be indicative of paternity.

As with any dominant trait, unless you have some way of knowing you are a homozygous carrier, you could not be sure that you would always pass the trait to your offspring so lack of trait would mean nothing.

Yet they are hereditary and when combined in the absence the traits with the mother and the presence in the children, it was enough for me.

More evidence that Britt is (perhaps unknowingly) doing the deep state’s bidding. Why bring this up now? Trump is ahead. Can all the pregnancy crap until after the election.
