Johnson Vows to Protect Jack Smith Hours After Democrats Save His Speakership
Breitbart ^ | 05.09.2024 | BRADLEY JAYE

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) wasted little time after 163 Democrats voted to save his speakership to announce he would not use Congress’s constitutional power of the purse to stop special counsel Jack Smith’s “lawfare” against Donald Trump.

The Speaker, in some of his earliest public comments after Democrats saved his gavel, refused to make any attempt to defund Smith’s office as it continues its prosecutions of Trump.

“That’s not something you wave a wand and just eliminate the special counsel as a provision,” Johnson told Politico. “There is a necessity for a function like that, because sometimes the Department of Justice — which is an executive branch agency — can’t necessarily, without a conflict of interest, investigate or prosecute the president who’s their boss, or the president’s family.”

Trump is who I will be voting for but Trump has a blind spot on recognizing the enemy from within and the congressional Republicans, especially the leadership are freaking liberals and traitors.

With all the betrayals from Bush41 to the way they cut and ran on Trump in 20(BTW were these Republicans actually Democrats then or do they always get a pass after they stab you in the back-again) I still see Republican Party pukes on here defending these back stabbing scumbags. And the are you a Democrat line, please come up with something different. I could ask the same of you since you support the leftist speaker Johnson who has to have Democrat votes to retain power. Dear God I have heard that are you a Democrat load of horse dung since Bush 41.

If he doesn’t serve a second term it will because the election is suspended or he is murdered.

Gauls me that no one in this party fights for Trump

The actually existing Republican Party (not the FR Imaginary Republican Party) has never and does not now accept Trump as one of their own - and, TBH, that's because he isn't one of their own.

If they can figure out how to prevent nominating him, they will, and if he is their nominee they will denounce him, subvert his campaign, and if he somehow wins they will do EXACTLY what they did in the late winter and Spring of 2017.

What galls ME is that there are still people here who use the pronouns "we" and "us" when referring to the GOP.

There are many “ors”. The House and Senate with Republican support could deny results and refuse to seat supporters. Violence WILL break out and martial law instituted. The deep state with Republitards have many scenarios they will use in the time before swearing in. It is not going to be pretty.

Yep. And on the other side Trump thinks he can make his sworn enemies love him by praising or appointing them.

He won't make it this time by being political mush. He has never pulled a trigger. And those in the streets will have guns the next time. All programmed by the FBI.

“Trump thinks he can make his sworn enemies love him by praising or appointing them.”

He definitely used to. Has he learned his lesson? Sounds like he has not.

My original comment was to a person who was complaining about Trump (a Never Trumper in this case).

We are in the election season. This is NOT a time to be complaining about our candidate. If he doesn't win, we are in deep trouble.

Is Trump perfect? No, of course not. But he's all we've got.

So to people who want to complain about him (and possibly discourage people who need to get out and vote for him)...shut the eff up.

BTW, we are no longer in the primary season. Trump is the nominee. So when people on our side complain about Trump, it just gives ammo to the Democrats.

Your brain must be fried if you think anything someone says here influences any votes whatsoever.

People here vote. People here have families and friends who vote. Those families and friends know people who vote.

On top of that, there are still a lot of lurkers who get their news from FR and read the comments. Those people are influenced by what they read here.

How do I know this?

I have family and friends who lurk here. And they are influenced by what they read. I get a lot of my news from FR. I am influenced by what I read here...and that includes what I read in the comments.

Complaining is contagious. When people whine and complain about a candidate to family and friends, those people are less inclined to work for that candidate when it comes to knocking on doors, donating money, and/or encouraging their fellow workers, friends, and family to vote for him.

Do I believe that Free Republic and the people here make a difference? Absolutely. I know they do.

You are apparently unaware of the history of Free Republic and Freepers and their influence.

The Special Counsel is in the US Code but the issue is that US Attorneys have significant powers and are required to be confirmed by the US Senate. Special Counsels are appointed by the Attorney General and given all the powers of a US Attorney but there is no provision to confirm them in the Senate. Arguably it the AG does not have authority to grant such powers without consent of the Senate.

Until Jack Smith, all of the ones appointed have been former US Attorneys so arguably the Senate at some point vetted them and found them qualified. But Jack Smith never went through that so he should not be wielding US Attorney power.

Jack Smith. That's the argument and I agree with it, the constitutional power the Senate has to advice and consent of high office appointments means nothing is some government employee with no constitutional authority can appoint them himself without any oversight.

Trump has my support. The congressional Republicans not so much, they haven’t earned my vote by a long shot except for Rand Paul.
