Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed a privileged motion to vacate the chair, forcing the House to vote within two legislative days to eject Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
Johnson is expected to immediately move to table – and effectively kill – the motion, a vote which requires a simple majority. Yet House rules do not prohibit Greene, or any other lawmaker, from forcing additional votes, and she and her allies have not tipped their hand as to what they’ll do should the motion be killed.
Further, Johnson’s immediate future, despite assurances from Johnson-friendly media outlets, is far from certain. Some Republicans, including those who will vote against ejecting Johnson, may vote against the tabling motion out of principle. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) has announced he would do so, although he has not said how he will vote on the motion to vacate itself.
Greene pulled the trigger Wednesday after almost two months of warnings for Johnson to end his coalition government with Democrats during which the endangered Speaker unleashed a torrent of President Joe Biden’s priorities into law.
While long anticipated, the motion’s inevitability seemed to wane this week as Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) met Monday and Tuesday with Johnson for a combined three hours to discuss a path forward. The pair proposed four accountability measures to ensure the Speaker would not advance an agenda opposed by a majority of Republicans, including preventing further American funding of Ukraine’s faraway war.
Johnson had continued to state he was hearing the duo out and considering their proposals while insisting it was “not a negotiation.”
But Tuesday evening, after complaining (yet again) he had not been getting enough sleep, Johnson appeared to let the veil drop, sneering and rolling his eyes when asked if he would give Greene an answer soon.

Can we knock this dumb chit off for a while?
Even TRUMP asked her not to.
Good Grief.
“Even TRUMP asked her not to.”
And Trump’s discernment always has been flawless. 🙄
Marjorie Taylor Greene has a bird brain and is a disgrace for the Republican party. She is hurting our image.
What she does is so unintelligent and so crazy I start to wonder if she isn’t a trojan horse planted into our ranks in order to make us look crazy all the time.
With such so called “republican” Trump doesn’t need enemies!
She has become a liability for Trump as well.

Unlike you she’s only one with the fortitude to stand up for America .
Agree!!! 👍

Unlike me and Trump you mean. Right?
Trump has rebuked her many times already. But she continues to undermine him anyway! She is sabotaging his chances to win in november. What makes her dangerous is her lack of intelligence.
As I am a Trump supporter, I can’t support people like MTG.
I think she is a “submarine” planted in our ranks by our opponents to ruin our chances to win elections.
We need more Reaganism and Trumpism within our ranks. We don’t need meatheads doing crazy stuff. Trump has had enough of her behavior.
I'm fine with that. They could all drop dead tomorrow and I wouldn't notice or care.
You are ON the mark.
Trump has a poor historical record on personnel.
[Though I’ll grant that the pool of choices is poor/weak.]
“You don’t always get what you want”
Mike Johnson is NOT helping Trump.
He has a serious case of Long TDS. [At best]
[At this point, it’s rearranging the deck chairs on The Titanic.]
Tell the fat girl to scoot over so Jack can get on the piece of wood, too
Hear, hear!
I agree.
Republican infighting during an election year?! This is something you start to bring up in December AFTER Election Day!!
MTG lost her prized victory late yesterdy with a majority of House GOP voting against her. A good general does not force upon his troops a battle the general knows their troops are far insufficient for the task. MTG shows she’s a good firebrand yelling accoss the battle lines denigrating the opponent, but she is no leader when it comes to knowing WHEN to create a battle.
You can call all the GOP House members who voted against her play “RINOS” all you want. For some that may be true, but it is often a too broad a brush and a slander against GOP members it does not fit, even when they might disagree with you.
Steve Scalise is getting to be a GOPe house member for making the motion to table. The problem with Republicans in the Congress, is they never vote as a block like the Democraps do. That’s why our majority will never be big enough.
Now is not the time to risk losing the House.
The Presidential election is the most important thing by far.
If Trump does not win, nothing else will matter ever again.
Months before a presidential and big senate elections. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
To: piroque
Agree!!! 👍
