Marijuana Downgrade: Three cheers for Yemen; By easing access to marijuana, America will join Yemen in the international race to the bottom
American Thinker ^ | 05/07/2024 | Richard J. Douglas

What do backward Yemen and the developed United States have in common? An apparently insatiable urge to get stoned on a green bush. In Yemen the green bush, khat, generally is chewed. In our country the green bush, marijuana, is smoked, chewed, vaped, and applied as a cream. The effect is more or less the same: incapacity and degradation.

Imagine being a fly on the wall at the recent Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) senior staff meeting where Biden politicals hanging on at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) uncorked their plan to downgrade marijuana on the controlled substances list. You remember HHS: the same public health agency that provided gold-plated COVID-19 advice to the nation while receiving Big Pharma royalties. Does Big Marijuana pay royalties? Bet on it.

One wonders: in the meeting room, is there a portrait of late DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena? Did anyone mention that the Guadalajara Cartel murdered Camarena in 1982 for engineering the destruction of its marijuana plantations? Or that transfers of millions of American dollars each year collected from American drug buyers finance the cartels? Has anyone at DEA or HHS disputed the notion that increasing marijuana use in America will contribute to reducing our shocking national drug addiction? Or that the cartels will vanish?

In Yemen khat is widely available and khat chewing is built into everyday life. Visit Yemen’s ancient capital, Sanaa, and you will see khat-chewing parlors on every block. Couches line the walls in these establishments. By mid-afternoon they are occupied by out-of-it chewers and the country shuts down. Visit Sanaa’s central market and you will see heaps of the green khat bush on tables, ready for local use and for export to the Horn of Africa, the Arabian Gulf states, and even to the USA,

“ Alcohol is responsible for a million times more social problems than marijuana. So to be consistent I guess you would support getting rid of that too or are you a hypocrite?”

It certainly would be a better place to live if nobody used alcohol. I could have taken my daughter to Bengal games without the vulgar language and behavior of people who cannot handle themselves. Less traffic fatalities, less people with DUIs on their record.
No doubt.

For 50yrs the govt in cahoots with big pharma funded nothing but studies on the harms of weed.

The states should not be in the recreational drug business.

It should’ve been decriminalized.

The potheads fought the deep state and won.

The stuff supporting the same empire that brought us the clot shot, McDs type primary care, insane medical costs etc.....are not in need of anyone’s support.

So you’re in favor of prohibition of alcohol too then?

Yemen, you mean the home of terrorists?

Are you suggesting there’s an association between khat and terrorism? Correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation.

No, we tried that before and it made a mess of things.
But, the use of alcohol has caused a great deal of our current societal problems. When the obituary of the USA is written alcohol will have played a huge roll in her death. Marijuana will be the final nail in our coffin and our authoritarian leaders that want complete control over us know this.

“ It’s currently “easier” to access from the black market than the legal route these days,”
It’s easier to get some laced with fentanyl too.

I'm saying that the U.S.S. Cole was attacked by the terrorists housed in Yemen back in October 2000, and Yemen is home to the Houthis that Joe took off the terrorist list when he first usurped the White House. Haven't done a piss test on any of them to know if they smoke marijuana or not. Maybe Hunter smokes with them.

I consider marijuana to be much less harmful than alcohol from both a health and a societal standpoint. And all research pertaining to these substances validates that. What exactly is it about marijuana that puts a bee in your bonnet? That’s not to say that there shouldn’t be any restrictions on marijuana use. It does have a demotivational side effect so I could see drug testing welfare recipients who refuse to take responsibility for themselves. But for otherwise responsible adults the state has no business sticking their nose in this. I don’t want some low IQ pinhead telling me what I can or cannot ingest as long as that habit doesn’t interfere with the rights of others. You know many Western countries forbid melatonin supplements. Is this the sort of nanny state government you want?

So weed and terrorism are connected.

But the commies and Marxists destroying the nation are not connected to the two giant commie nation states Russia and China.

Sounds like something the potheads would be posting.

Government wants marijuana legal. All research is going to show exactly what the government wants it to show. Just like global warming.
The “bee in my bonnet” it watching the country that I love fall out of the world leadership position and into a socialist hell hole.

As far as the nanny state is concerned, it’s going to be much worse when marijuana users are voting for democrats. Cars, gas stoves, guns, hell even cows are going to be regulated by the government.

“watching the country that I love fall out of the world leadership position and into a socialist hell hole.”

Contrary to your impression marijuana has nothing to do with the current state of our country. More Republican voters than you think have used marijuana. Many old time conservatives conflate marijuana with the hippie movement of the 60’s and erroneously blame all the social changes from that on marijuana. Over indulgence of marijuana can have some deleterious effects but over indulgence in alcohol has way worse effects. But just as a few drinks doesn’t hurt anybody neither does taking a few hits of pot to relax hurt anybody either.

hmmm, I thought that region was poppy and hashish. That mere MJ was siphoned away from the hashish production is something I would have never considered.

Be sure to get your Tin Foil hat checked every 5,000 miles or so!

Honestly, I'm sure it could happen, but what would be the point of lacing Marijuana with fentanyl? All you're going to do is piss off a customer or perhaps kill that customer, and that's not exactly a winning formula for a “dealer”. You certainly aren't going to “hook” someone on Marijuana by doing the retarded thing you're suggesting, although I have little doubt there are morons out there who subscribe to your lunacy and have attempted that stupidity. Certainly nothing I've ever run across or heard of in my associations with those who purchase off the Black Market.

Millions of Americans are still purchasing weed on the Black Market. That's a fact, and the primary reason is Excise Taxes.

It has never made sense to keep marijuana listed as a Scheduled I drug, along with heroin, etc. Moving it to schedule III puts it in the same category as things like Valium.

Just a few weeks ago a 17 year old boy stoned on prescription marijuana crossed the centerline in a heavy pickup truck and killed 6 members of a family. This happened on Johnson County Texas the same county that gave US affluenza when another upper class boy killed 4 members of another family. He to is out in consideration of his delicate condition.

“ fact that you think it does just illustrates how delusional you are.”

You’re in denial because you like marijuana and don’t want to give it up
You will justify it’s use anyway you can. “Not as bad as alcohol”, “alcohol is worse”. But, to say it has NOTHING to do with the current state of our country is so obviously wrong it’s shocking you could believe it.
Marijuana
Alcohol
Opioids
Meth
Pornography
These are all factors in the inevitable collapse of the nation. There is no question about it. Maybe you have to witness the end before you can admit it.

The only reason pot was ever schedule 1 was to outlaw using it in research, research that would prove 90% of what the government says about pot is a flat out lie. Now that half the states have decided not to listen to those lies it’s well past time to surrender that idiot position and put it down the list with the boring stuff.
