Is Venezuela Serious About Invading Guyana?
MSN ^ | 5/4 | Gisela Salim-Peyer

President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela is an exuberant dictator, a lover of military salutes who is being investigated for crimes against humanity, but he’s not reckless enough to invade neighboring Guyana, is he? Would the leader of a country in an ever-deepening economic crisis risk starting Latin America’s first interstate war this century? Well, maybe.

For a century and a half, Guyana and Venezuela have quarreled over Essequibo, a stretch of the Amazon that both countries claim. Guyana has long governed the territory, but Venezuela also claims sovereignty over it, citing maps drawn in colonial times. Last year, Maduro expressed a sudden enthusiasm for seizing Essequibo that took many Venezuelans by surprise. International conglomerates had discovered lots of oil there, but that was in 2015, and in any case, Venezuela, too, has plenty of oil.

Whatever the reason, the slogan “Essequibo is ours” began appearing all over Venezuela—on posters and bumper stickers, as well as on promotional materials for a state-sponsored music festival in Caracas called Essequibo Fest. The ministry of ecosocialism produced a song with the slogan as its title. Then, in December, Venezuelans were called to vote in a referendum. Did they agree to establish a Venezuelan state in Essequibo and extend Venezuelan citizenship to the territory’s residents? Yes, 90 percent of Venezuelans answered, according to state media. Yes, we do.

Hmmm, this may be one of those cases a larger country invades a smaller country, and gets their head handed to them.

In fairness, the big guy doesn’t have anything to fear, they are already defeating themselves.

I can only hope Guyana would take over Venezuela.

They have more oil than ANY nation on earth. (Yes, more than Saudi Arabia, U.S., Russia.)

I also meant to say they are pumping very little, because their infrastructure is so bad.

If they want Colombia and Brasil attacking them with us and UK assisting then be my guest

Colombia is no stranger to war

Brasil has a serious Air Force relatively speaking

Plus we won’t sit on our hands

Guyana is being picked on

They are seriously trying to do this right and become like Dubai

I say do it Maduro, verify what leftists already know about your idiocy. Go ahead, attack Guyana, let us see how powerful your military is, and then what? You will fail. You f’ing idiot cannot manage your own country, what will you do with another?

Guyana has a ton of oil too - it has the fastest growing economy on the planet, due to an oil boom, which is why Maduro wants it.

Does the US still apply the Monroe Doctrine and to what ends would we go? Would we go full Panama on them?

Venezuela has the most of anyone. (Guyana is #17) Venezuela has 1000 years of production in reserve. Yet, Venezuela is 26th in barrels/day, because their infrastructure is so bad, and they kicked out U.S. companies. Guyana is 43rd in Barrels/day, I’m not sure how much that would move the needle. They do well to improve their ability to pump.

Invade them like we did Grenada. Just fill the landing craft with illegals. Start with MS-13’s from Mexico and ElSalvador. Give them fake uniforms.

Joe Biden hopes he is. Nothing like a war to move the polls. But it should be timed just a couple months before the election so the intervention won’t have time to go bad before Nov 5.

You’re not thinking BIG enough. Trump’s an alpha dog. Trump will recruit beta dogs FROM MS-13, like Yevgeny Prigozhin did with the Wagner Army, recruiting from Russian prisons. Trump will make that bus driver in Venezuela an offer he cannot refuse.

There are about 10 million young people left in Venezuela that should not procreate due to being on the leftist side of the bell curve. If BlackRock offered $1,000 to anyone willing to get sterilized, all the right people would self-select, and it would only cost $10 billion. Venezuela’s oil reserves are worth at least $20 trillion. It’s an investment with a tremendous return.
