South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

I know a 14 month old “pup” that is a big and dangerous animal. Vets had to double muzzle it to handle it. It should be put down.

Because the feckin' idjits on this forum, and similar places, join in.
I agree. This thread is embarrassing.
“Actually you can totally break a dog of it. You can desensitize them over time or you can just tie the dead chicken around their neck and leave it flipping around on them for 5 days. They will never chase a chicken again. Its an old farmer’s trick.”
That’s more like an old farts fable. I ried that with a dog of ours, it didn’t stop killing chickens until they were all dead. It killed cats too.
Aren’t you judging others by referring some animal lovers as emotional liberals?
Your story is quite emotional and your feelings are correct.
She did not view this dog as family, or if she did, she accepted that the animal members of her “family” can meet this fate if they exhibit a dangerous temperament.
Every dog is not your loveable dog.
I recall as a kid we often had litters of kittens in the house. Most were great and I remember them all fondly.
Ocassionaly one was just crazy, constantly hyper and biting and scratching.
I feel sorry for the kitten and I truly don’t remember what happened with it. But if we brought it to a shelter for sure they euthanized it.
At that point you recognize a different dividing line when dealing with animal life versus human life.
We don’t bring humans to vets to be injected or gassed in the same situations in which an animal will be killed.
Maybe she was rash or stupid, but she wasn’t evil.
Judge is a strong word,I certainly associate being irrationally emotional about animals, as a liberal trait.
For example, I note on social media, if a person just posts a photo of nice wildlife;
They get liberals yelling at them “leave it alone” and “they were here before us!”
Often the poster answers that that never said they bothered the animal in any way.
That said, I do the same thing (judging others) all the time and hate myself for it.
Well, speaking as a fellow mammal with a very similar nervous system and above 80% of the same DNA, if the commies take over and I'm given the choice, I think I'd much prefer fentanyl or about any opioid OD over being shot in the head. I'd even pay for it myself over the bullet.
Thank you very much. Do you know if it is public domain?
It is a wonderful graphic. It does an excellent job of illustrateing why many animals need to be killed.

The dog should have been shot.
The shooter should have stayed quiet about it.

Yes. Noem was a fool to include this story in her book. She is a bigger fool for continuing to talk about. She should let her defenders do the talking and let it die down.
Shows she doesn’t have what it takes to make it on the big stage.
Don’t hate yourself, please.
Not healthy.
Better to judge others lol.
I really hate what goes on everywhere in the media, which is discussion of what people should have said and what they shouldn’t have said.
People should have the courage to say what they want and be respected for it.
Having said that, LOL, I have to admit that after the Romney story of the dog on the car roof has been around for many years, Noem does seem to be an idiot to include this story in her book.
So, whatever.
Hate might be too strong a word.;-)
This country is full to the brim of professional karens. bet most of the crybabies are still wearing masks.
some are female and some are male ...
The livestock could be chicks for all we know.
Any animal, such as this dog, engaging in depredation of farm animals, such as her chickens, needs to be killed.
And, therein lies the problem.
You bought a working breed because it looked 'pretty' but didn't give a job to do.
So, it found a job it enjoyed -- killing chickens.
Working breeds need to be 'working' every day. Otherwise their excess energy causes bad behavior.
If you want a dog that just lays around all day, adopt a greyhound.
“Could’ve taken the pup to the vet to be put down”
Or you can shoot it in the head, which is faster. And no, it wasn’t “a puppy”.
