Tech workers in San Francisco have planned to create a downtown 'commune' that will allow people to 'live, eat and work' all within a 15-minute walk.
Set to be launched on May 11, City Campus, a nonprofit, plans to create a one-square-mile 'campus' in the Hayes, Alamo and Duboce neighborhoods. The exact location of City Campus has not yet been established.
According to the nonprofit's website, the goals of the new urban space is for people to 'find and pursue you life's work, meet inspiring collaborators, live near friends, raise kids in community, do focused work and engage in civic and social life.'
The plan was created by four 'community builders', Patricia Mou, Thomas Schulz, Jason Benn and Adi Melamed.
'The synergy of bumping into people that are working on or doing the same stuff creates this very positive cycle,' Schulz told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Some of the places expected to make up the utopia-like community are communal cafeterias, late-night cafes, civic spaces, debate halls, community experiences, 'pluralistic and secular spiritual spaces,' 'multi-purpose co-working spaces,' and 'mixed-use daycares,'
'It’s finding everything you need and everyone you love within a 15 minute walk.' Benn said.

A place where you can get all your robbing, beating and mugging done AND step in human excrement and urine - all within 15 minutes of where you live, eat, work and play. Wonderful. They might as well set aside room for the bum hovels because they'll end up there anyway where they don't want them.
A lot of NYers have already left, especially some of the affluent NYers.
Some came to Texas, I know others that moved to NM.
Most probably moved to Florida, many already had homes there.
Still 8 million there.
SERIOUSLY??!!!
“That” is your response? To critique my comment? Such a narrow view is exactly what the powers that be seek to project in defense of their failed policies, thereby defending said policies.
Congrats. /s
smh
Wow—touchy this morning! Go have some more coffee—or try having less coffee tomorrow.
My comment was intended to reinforce your comment. Jeesh!
As I said, there are still 8 million people there.
You Texans and New Yorkers are bookends in simultaneous similarity and contempt. Somehow ever so cocksure because of the scale of your home base, but one side feels superior for its yahoo roots—and the other for its anti-yahoo roots.
I’m sure all the elites in the US will be anxious to move into one of those 15 minute villages.
Yes: Yes I am.
Maybe you ought use that sarc tag.
(I’m just as guilty)
I wasn’t actually being sarcastic: Just trying to reinforce and further your point.
FReegards.
I don’t throw rocks at NY, except for the NYT.
Have a number of old friend that were transplanted from NY.
Have a few old friends on the web from NY.
I’ve never been to NY, and don’t expect to be.
My mother was a Swede from MN, I’m a mutt. Scot Irish, English, Swede, German.
Note my tagline>
That looks like a horrible place to live.
“Financially, the group has asked people to donate $750,000 to help create City Campus. The funds will cover investments every six months for two years, plus a 20 percent overhead fee. A GoFundMe page called ‘Help us Launch the City Campus Fund’ was created to accept donations. As of Tuesday evening, $380 has been raised.”
seriously?
$750,000 minus 20% “overhead” is enough to buy one dilapidated garage behind one of the houses in the outlined one square mile area of existing private buildings ...
“City Campus” should really be named “Scam City”
PRISONS already have this structure.
THE RULES WILL MAKE MOST HOA’S look like a cake walk.
NO PETS -—NO LOUD MUSIC after 7 PM.
LIKE I Said-—A PRISON.
The original concept of Shopping Malls was live, eat, walk within a mile. That sounded Great.....in the early seventies.
My Mall, which I owned and operated two stores in for 10 years was just fine until the City established a bus stop at the mall. All the liberals thought Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!! .....isn’t that nice.
Then, young black males by the dozens thought it would be fun to ride out to the Mall and hang out. Then, the fights and sexual assaults and shoplifting started. Next all the white folks quit going to the mall. The 100 store Mall closed completely within 5 years after I left. Then, the City bought it for pennies on the dollar. Get it???
The government, any government, will destroy anything it touches. This SFO live, eat, work, walk utopia will suffer the same fate.
Apologies. It’s one of those weeks.
these four morons want this so badly they need to throw in their own money into this project.
What if some resident can’t walk?
