New York Man was visiting his Summerland Key vacation home earlier this month and decided to hit the Winn-Dixie one night "to pick up some coffee and Key lime pie," as he told his arresting officer two days later. Key lime pie is not a controlled substance in Florida — thank goodness — but keying somebody's car for having a "Let's Go Brandon" sticker is.
What New York Man, later identified as Richard Philip Brothers, 63, of Syracuse, didn't know was that he'd been caught on video doing his dirty deed in the Winn-Dixie parking lot. The sheriff's deputy showed up well-prepared, with his Miranda warning card and the surveillance video ready to go.
"Do you remember what you did when you walked out of Winn-Dixie," the cop asked after reading Brothers his rights, "to the green Toyota Tundra?"
"I walked by a truck, yeah."
"What did you do to it?"
"I scratched it… I guess [the Brandon sticker] infuriated me… Yeah, that’s the only reason I did it."
Florida Man is pressing charges of criminal mischief, thank you very much, which is a third-degree felony and punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine....

Yeah, I won't give him that credit. He was in denial, 'I don't recall' ... up until it became clear that the officer had video evidence. Until that point he was trying to bluff his way out of it. When confronted with the fact that video evidence existed, he fessed up. I'd have given credit had he admitted at the get go, not after the officer gave him plenty of time to admit the crime - but waited until the officer made it clear that the perp was captured on candid camera.

What he should have done is exercise his right to remain silent. He didn’t. Now he’s looking at felony jail time, and not much he can do about it.
I don’t have a new car, but I certainly share your concerns. I don’t have ANY team stickers, slogans- nothing. My Dad had his Lincoln Continental Town Car keyed many years ago while we were in a restaurant at a family gathering.
Never did find out who did it. Personally, I think it was a family member, but I could never prove it.

‘Nasty’ - absolutely, but ‘irrational’, not so much. Fundamentally, they think they’re entitled to do whatever they can get away with to those they don’t like - after all, (in their minds), they’re better than us, they’re more sensitive than us, they care more than us, and since the truck obviously belonged to someone with traditional conservative values - and worse, was advertising the fact - that person clearly deserved to have something bad happen to them. One sees the exact same attitude in all these jerk-offs demonstrating across the country.
