John Silber was a college president worthy of respect and B.U. was lucky to have him. He left the school a much better place than he found it.

Such a contrast to the current crop of lightweights.

“Silber had a specific faculty figure to contend with: prominent political science professor Howard Zinn, author of the influential People’s History of the United States, widely read but lightly regarded by serious historians. To Zinn, the replica shantytowns were the essence of education:”

If it wasn’t for the fact that public schools were free, there is no way in the world that I would have subjected my kid to Zinn’s book - it was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, America-hating CRAP.

“This is not some very deeply felt, high moral cause on their part; this is showboating of a very insincere kind by most of these students, and I want them to understand that I see through their pretensions.” - Silber on the 80’s era shantytown protests

Divestment...same filth the communists pulled on South Africa. Look at how that turned out.

Not the mention, current college presidents are DEI hires where excellence is devalued.

Silber was an interesting guy, interesting enough that Massachusetts elected a Republican governor (William Weld) instead of the Democrat Silber in that race.
