David Mamet is against the initiatives in Hollywood to create diversity, equity, and inclusion, referred to as DEI.
“DEI is garbage,” the author said at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, as the Los Angeles Times reported. “It’s fascist totalitarianism.”
Mamet has a particular gripe about the inclusion rules the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has implemented for films to be considered in the Oscar Best Picture category.
“I can’t give you a stupid ****ing statue unless you have 7% of this, 8% of that … it’s intrusive,” Mamet said.
He also said, “The [film industry] has little business improving everybody’s racial understanding as does the fire department.”
Regarding nepotism in Hollywood, Mamet doesn’t think his kids have benefitted from his accomplishments in the industry and rather says they learned from being on set, earning them a spot.
“They earned it by merit,” Mamet said about his daughter Zosia Mamet, who starred in HBO’s Girls and most recently in Marvel and Sony’s Madame Web. “They haven’t benefited from any type of privilege.”
He continued, “Nobody ever gave my kids a job because of who they were related to.”
Mamet’s latest book is titled Everywhere an Oink Oink: An Embittered, Dyspeptic, and Accurate Report of Forty Years in Hollywood. In the playwright’s memoir, he “describes a world gone by, some of our most beloved film stars with their hair down, and how it all got washed away by digital media and the woke brigade.”
Mamet’s latest book is a Hollywood memoir and it is touching and hilarious and deep at the same time. I recommend it highly:l
Second prize is a set of steak knives.
I just bought it, thanks so much! Can’t wait to read it!
I think you’d have to be more hands on than an observer to be good at building cabinets or running the business.
... and third prize is... you’re fired.
Enjoy!
Um...
Yes,
and no.
All of this is marxism plain and simple
Western civilization was founded on nepotism. Actually, during medieval times it was more of a caste system that people were born into.
That's why a lot of English surnames come from trades. It wasn't nepotism back then, it was survival. As the population grew, a second son would learn the father's trade and then move to a neighboring village that needed a smith, for example.
Today, nepotism isn't just about a child being handed a job due to privilege; nepotism gets its bad rap from the child being unqualified for the job he was given. For example, the daughter of an armorer becomes an armorer.

Yes I’ve heard gays blame the Pope for the AIDs deaths. Amazing.
He can believe that if he wants, but they wouldn't have even been on set if not for their last name.
If you're referring to her son Jason, he seems to still be very much alive.
I love this:
“In 2008 Mamet wrote a hugely controversial op-ed for the Village Voice, “Why I Am No Longer a ‘Brain-Dead Liberal”
“Hugely controversial”... LOL! I can just see them with their hands over their mouth fainting. An op-ed shocks them to their core but not a bunch of Nazis taking over college campuses or their President financing terror via Iran.
What I never understood about that movie is they were expected to be closing on dead leads, such as Jack Lemmon pathetically showing up at that guys house at night in the rain and trying to get him to buy. How are you suppose to get them to buy? By putting a gun to their head? It’s impossible. “Always be closing” HOW?? For him to be closing he would literally have to threaten them
The TV series The Unit was written and/or produced by Mamet. It was excellent! Word has it that someone in Obummer’s admin didn’t like it and had it cancelled.
I don’t know if you have ever worked in sales, including cold calling, lead generation, etc. but basically, they don’t want excuses. It’s just as the movie said....you have the leads, sell. Get them to sign on the dotted line.
I used to door to door setting up leads for air conditioning salesmen and if I didn’t get the minimum, they didn’t want any excuses. I think Gordon Gekko talked about it in Wall St. Something about no different than selling apples on the corner.
It’s a brutal business. That’s the point Alex Baldwin is making. don’t care if you are nice guy....good father, go home and play with your kids. It takes brass balls to sell real estate......great movie. classic,
The best thing that can be done is to start a different award.
Ignore the Oscar’s and work with the new award people. Make it up as you go along.
