All our trouble with China comes from their going Communist in 1949. Before then it was a friendly country and an ally.
Chiang Kai-shek wasn't perfect (he was very pro-moslem and anti-Zionist), but all of the terrible things that have happened to that country since 1949 could have been avoided if we had just treated him like the wartime ally he was instead of belatedly deciding that he was a "fascist."
Thanks a lot Truman, Acheson, Marshall, Lattimore, and the IPR gang!
If we had to do it all over again, I wonder who would have been the bigger threat long-term: Imperial Japan or Communist China? I would say China, because of their much higher population. I never thought Imperial Japan could really ever manage to control Asia.
And what better way to give angry youngsters purpose than another war or revolution.
We have this same problem here; the chronic inflation spurred by running the printing presses 24/7 during the “coup flu” have put many things beyond the reach of younger workers - so they stopped working. CA’s $20 minimum wage is a bizarre attempt to address this (with predictable shortcomings); this is Weimar Germany now.
The increases in minimum wage laws are more than posturing; Biden pushes it because it is also a way to increase payroll taxes - especially Social Security, paid by both employee and employer - and it will also lift some low-wage workers above the threshold whereby they qualify for freebies (on top of their paychecks).
None of this is an accident, or unintended; the 1%ers didn’t become rich/gain control of this country by being stupid.
