NASA Administrator Bill Nelson is being mocked for suggesting the far side of the moon is always “dark” and can’t explain why China is interested in exploring that part of the moon.
“What do you think the Chinese are trying to get at, at the back side of the moon?” Rep. David Trone (D-MD) asked Nelson at a congressional hearing last week.
“They are going to have a lander on the far side of the moon, which is the side which is always in dark. Uh, we’re not planning to go there,” he said.

We are hoping that there is some (small) areas in craters’ depths at the moon’s poles that never get sunlight on them.
This would hopefully allow some water to remain in solid form.
They could have battled it out with The Association.
“Which one’s Pink”
Me too. I didn’t read any comments before I posted. Like minds.
My mistake.
Putting up a notice on the dark side of the moon: “Attention: Aliens! Come on in! We have lots of guei with stupid brains inside soft skulls. Delicious! We are giving them away. Make great slaves, if you are not hungry.
But I thought the Dems were the party of science. /s
Well said, this was my understanding as well. Lots of FReepers don’t know this, lol.
Wth all these things landing on the moon who is worrying about keeping it from tipping over?
No doubt he was stoned at the time.
“It’s the best Fedral Gubmint money can buy.”
I think NASA had plans for radio telescopes on the “dark” side in a few years. I hope Nelson is just spoofing the media on this one.
After I read thr title, I thought it might be a mecia misunderstanding and the speaker was trying to make a clever/funny Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon reference. But I give the drones in DC waaay too much credit.
And we can see about 70% of the moons surface from earth.
China is hiding on the far side
The mineral composition of the dark side is different from the side that’s facing the earth. I believe that the Chinese are right, and are more likely to find minerals worth mining their.
there.
Pink Floyd just popped into my brain when posting this insane story.
Hope everyone got a laugh out of it.
Now I can’t get the song “Eclipse” out of my head.
Perfect meme.
