An Oklahoma man is facing up to 12 years in prison for having ammunition in his carry-on bag at a Turks and Caicos airport, according to a GoFundMe page for his family.
Ryan and Valerie Watson, the parents of two young children, were flying home from their island vacation, where they were celebrating a friend's 40th birthday, on April 12 when they were arrested at the airport.
"They had their lives turned upside down when they tried to return home, as local airport security found four rounds of ammunition unknowingly left in a duff[le]bag from a deer hunting trip," a description on the family's GoFundMe page states. "It was not noticed by TSA when leaving America. Now, they are facing a legal system that is unfamiliar, daunting, and expensive that operates differently than the American Justice System."
The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a travel alert in September 2023 telling Americans not to bring ammunition to the islands.

I would be happy to boycott but I would never go any where I might worry about having my food spit in by a waiter angry about colonization.
When they plant anything, it’s dope. That way they can hammer you and nobody will care.
“ Very little sympathy from me, sorry.”
He made a mistake, we’ve all made mistakes,
His was a dumb one, but not intentional and no one hurt.
“What’s a Whiting yacht ?”
Beats me! I’ve never been on any kind of yacht!
“Never use your range bag as a carry-on”
Derp, it really is that simple.
“Can someone not organized at 3 AM boat out to a Whiting yacht? Or a king air landing at the airport and whisking him away?”
If you buy executive travel insurance, all those options become available.
12 years for a Few Deer cartridges...
OUCH !
Shit Happens! A few weeks ago I threw on one of my vests (not a hunting vest), a little later I was digging through the pockets looking for my lighter and found 2 live twelve gauge shells and one round for my 45 long Colt.
Why they were there, I HAVE NO IDEA, perhaps I was wearing that vest when I was unloading and cleaning.
Deference to Americans? Nope, you go to someone else’s country you obey the laws or suffer the consequences. No deference because Americans think they are entitled to special treatment.
That said, this law is far too harsh when it was an innocent mistake.
No, I believe in Pax Americana. And no one touches Americans. In the interest of good and continued relations, they should immediately release him as it is clear it was unintentional and doing otherwise is disrespectful to the US and US citizens. If not, the US should block commerce and travel to/from the place. If they don’t like it, let’s see how they like not having US commerce and travel to/from.
I think most people would rather keep Americans out than give them carte blanche to break local laws. If you dont agree with local laws stay away.
