Quite a few did not........Too many..but too many of these homes were built on what are now 500k-750k burned down lots...
And I'm sure insurance was too steep for them to pay.
Yes, the lots were worth 500-700K. However, a lot of those “houses” in Lahina were literally tin roof shacks. They could be rebuilt for $15-35K. About the same price as it costs to build a garage.
A lot of the older houses had no insulation. No heat. No AC. Corrugated metal roofs.
