Maine Senate Democrats wrapped up their legislative session by passing gun controls in response to the October 25, 2023, Lewiston shooting, but the controls they passed would not have prevented the attack.
Breitbart News reported FOX News’s observation that the Lewiston attacker used a sniper rifle which he had “legally” purchased.
The New York Post likewise pointed out that police noted the attacker “legally purchased a sniper rifle with .308 caliber bullets, the weapons [sic] believed to have been used in the attack.”

I custom built my 300BLK SBR with a 10.5" barrel. The powder is burned by 9.5". Nothing to gain with more barrel. The shorter barrel allows for adding a suppressor yielding a nicely balanced SBR. Purpose built for hog hunting. Getting the gas port placement is important. A pistol port placement works well. Tuning for supersonic/subsonic is yet another chore.
Some sources claim it is a Ruger SFAR .308
That seems to look about right.
Thank you.
300 Blackout is a good option in AR. The other 30 caliber options in an AR have issues, Bolt failure is one.
A couple of years ago, I built my first AR. I always felt they were a weak hunting load. Finally I realized that by simply using heavier bullets and NATO charge levels, they very effective. Most of the time now, I load Speer 1053 70 gr Semi Spitzer SP bullets. I’m using a 5.56x45 NATO 18” 1:8 twist barrel. (heavy barrel) Range is an issue, but it has the stopping power for hunting.
Could be, Ruger’s version is not and AR platform.
They extended the magazine and bolt length.
The *fuzzy) photo’s I saw looked like a light short rifle.
Ruger makes a 16 and 20” barrel version.
AR15 300 Blackout can be much shorter and lighter. Especially with subsonic design.
.308 is a very lethal and good long range cartridge.
ME is 2 States: The People’s Republic of South ME and free ME.
CNN says you are correct.
I agree. You are correct.

Maine Bump
Maine’s 2nd District.....80% of the land area of the state.....is pretty much like the first sentence of your post.
The 1st District in the southeast portion of the state is moonbat central. In statewide and federal elections, it screws up the state.
Maine is the safest and one of the most pro-second amendment states in the country.
The democrat legislators in the Maine legislature from District 1 are lefties, and they are getting lots of money from Bloomberg.
Now, private gun sales are going by the wayside here.
Bloomberg funded a ballot initiative in 2016. If passed, it would have banned private gun sales in Maine. The people of Maine voted, and they said no to Bloomturd. Private gun sales continued.
Now, the legislature narrowly passed a bill ending private gun sales. Why have a ballot initiative if you’re going to ignore the results?
District 2 was carried by Trump by 10 points in 2016 and by 9 points in 2020.
The First District in southeast Maine is heavily democrat and likes Collins. She always gets elected because the RATS run a candidate who makes Collins look good by comparison, which she is not.
I live in Free Maine.
A number of democrats in the Maine House and Maine Senate are going to out on their asses this November.
The left owns the 1st Congressional district.
Plus, Maine has Constitutional Carry and when it passed in 2019, a number of elected democrats supported it.
Bruce Poliquin, incumbent GOP congressman in the 2nd district, “lost” re-election in 2018 because of RCV.
Poliquin had 2,200 MORE votes than the democrat, but RCV kicks in unless a candidate has 50% plus one vote. Neithert he nor the dem did.
There were two ringers in the race; after endless recounts the votes for these ringers went to the dem, because he was their second choice after the dem. A rigged system.
