Letter | GOP inviting Russia, Iran, North Korea invasions
Santa Cruz Sentinel ^ | April 15,2024 | Letters to the editor

Posted on 04/16/2024 6:44:02 PM PDT by artichokegrower

As the Republicans were swayed by Hitler and his propaganda to keep America out of World War II for as long as possible so has Trump and his allies in Congress. They use Putin talking points in keeping military aid from reaching the Ukraine. By preventing approval of ammunition and weaponry to this democratically elected government as it suffers continued bombardment by Russia we are not only guaranteeing the massive murder and torture of innocent civilians but also inviting Russia, Iran and North Korea to invade other free nations. The isolationist movement in the 1930s by America and Great Britain (Neville Chamberlain), thanks to Hitler’s strategic placement of spies and influence over Republican congressmen and businessmen propelled Germany’s march through Europe and the Holocaust.

Indeed, Iran witnesses do-nothing Republicans in Congress not stepping up to protect democracy, thus, they bomb Israel. Who’s next? Poland? Finland? Taiwan? Where has the Republican Party gone? You know, those that stood up to authoritarian tyrannies. Their hero, Ronald Reagan must be turning over in his grave. Protect democracies!

— Will C. Guilford, Santa Cruz

Some kind of leftist propaganda.
If I remember, the pro-Hitler Americans were mostly among Democrats.
I think, it was FDR who kept us out of the war for so long.

I have no idea about the person who wrote this article. But they missed history 101 on World War 2. Joe is a classic Neville Chamberlain, and is appeasing the enemies and bringing us to the brink of WW 3.

Absolute bullcrap claim about Republicans persuaded by Hitler. If Anything— FDR was blase’ in the extreme regarding the Nazis imprisoning and murdering Jews in Germany before the invasion of Poland. This is detailed extensively in Eric Larsons great well researched book “In the Garden of the Beasts” An American family in pre war Germany. Very good read. Explains the complete ignoring of even torture of a US Jewish physician by Nazis.

Republicans advocated not to be drawn into a war but to block the Germans from any trade— flat out. But the Rockefellers were having none of that and continued to sell gas no-knock compounds essential for the Nazi war machine. Standard Oil made millions until forced to stop this.

This writer is one large flaming a@@hole liar and likely a Neo-Marxist- utterly twisted illogical claims.

Because it is quite clear that the Communists in the US were against the US enteringintern turned on a dime once Hitler invaded Soviet Russia (so Stalin’s apparent shock. Since Nazis are Socialist just to the right of Communist Soviets— which people neatly forget- they were all Leftists. Lots of manipulation by FDR, including oil blockade of Japan.

I'd call the lot of you ignorant fools, except it's so obvious you were never taught Modern European History history in school. You are all so wrong it's stunning.

Read Lynne Olson's "Those Angry Days", and get back to me. While you're at it, her "Troublesome Young Men" will detail the history of the British appeasement movement over the same period leading up to 1939. She has other titles that should appeal to you after you've digested those two.

Parallels to the 1930s have been so overused in post war arguments that they should usually be avoided, but the parallels today seem unusually clear. It seems history this time will not merely rhyme but might actually be repeating.
I’m afraid that our current dithering has already convinced potential allies in east Asia of our unreliability. Unfortunately for us, the US in the 21st century isn’t the worlds foundry. It might be China’s factories that can turn out 10 times the anticipated quantity of war material, and we might find ourselves without front line allies in our 2030s conflicts.

You said a mouthful there. Since the '70s we've been driving primary steel and casting industries offshore with "environmental" regulation. Some of it only as far as Mexico, but Mexico may not be our friend if it comes to a major conflict with China. One small note of hope that almost nobody knows about: DIPEC. Defense Industrial Plant Equipment Command. Keeps packages of machine tools ready for quick deployment to manufacture basic military commodities like...artillery ammunition. DIPEC was once a client of mine, 30-40 years ago when I was in the machine tool rebuilding business. I hope they're still there and functional.
