California is suing Huntington Beach over its voter identification measure, recently passed by voters, hoping to stop the city from asking residents to present proof of identification when voting at in-person polling locations.
“It is violative of California state election law, undermines that process and threatens the constitutionally protected right to vote,” said California Attorney General Rob Bonta at a news conference in Los Angeles on Monday, April 15.
Secretary of State Shirley Weber, who oversees elections across California, said the voter ID requirement would disenfranchise voters and called it a solution in search of a problem.
“This voter ID measure conflicts with state law,” Weber said at the same press conference. “Not only is it a solution in search of a problem, laws like these are harmful to California voters, especially low-income, the elderly, people of color, those with disabilities, and young voters.”

I have no idea why after Florida in 2000 we didn’t pass a national election reform law, that would have required ID and standardized elections nationally.
The will existed on both sides at the time, but we let the opportunity slip through our fingers.
I LOVE Huntington Beach and have walked that pier MANY times in my 82 years of being a Southern California Native.
May God help them as a community as they fight off the evil of this corrupt state.!!
Not only is it a solution in search of a problem...
How do we know there’s no problem if we don’t ask for ID? Oh, yeah, like they taught us in trial advocacy: “If you can’t stand the answer, don’t ask the question”...
Let me guess. A scumbag Leftist bent on propagating election fraud. Another racist Leftist who wants people to think he views minorities are too stupid to get a license.
In actuality, he is all in on Election Fraud.
“...harmful to California voters, especially low-income, the elderly, people of color, those with disabilities, and young voters.”
Really? I have several ideas...and KNOW why.
You need a photo ID to purchase allergy medication for crying out loud! This is the BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP!!!
Good one!
I didn’t know that but googled and it seems to be true. I buy mine off the shelf at Costco and am not asked for ID. I’ve never been asked for ID to buy cereal either.
I have voted since I turned 21. Am now 84.
I HAVE ALWAYS PRESENTED ID AT THE POLLS.
NEVER OTHERWISE.
LOCAL LADY CHECKING THE ID’S KNOWS ME—WE RIDE HORSES TOGETHER WITH HER SISTER. EVEN MORE-—we live Rural-— we basically know each other
I lived in So Calif for 29 years & then in N Calif for a total of 40 years.
I ALWAYS PRESENTED ID WHEN I VOTED.
SINCE WHEN IS THIS A LAW AGAINST ID IN CALIF???
I left there 19 years ago +++
CANNOT GET A BUS PASS WITHOUT ID.
SAME FOR LIBRARY CARD
Even if such a measure had been created and PASSED into law these NO GOOD SOB's would look for and find a way around it.
Cheaters gonna CHEAT!
Funny. You had to show ID to get into the event w biden, clinton and Obama. So ya need an ID to get in to see the Presidents but NOT to vote?
You may be able to buy allergy medicine from Costco without an ID, but you need a photo ID to shop there and probably to purchase a Costco membership. (It’s been several decades since I purchased mine.
There have been no issues everywhere it has been passed.
“especially low-income, the elderly, people of color, those with disabilities, and young voters.” who are too stupid to obtain a free state provided I.D.
There, I finished the sentence no one ever seems to finish.
Do they have “standing”?
JEEZE don’t give them any ideas, I am in CA. and cereal will be next for ID because of its sugar content we live under Gestapo out here, EXCEPT when it comes to voting THEN anything goes!!!
