The West is feckless against the terrifying alliance between Iran, Russia and China
National Post [Canada] ^ | April 16, 2024 | Adam Zito

Posted on 04/16/2024 6:06:55 AM PDT by canuck_conservative

Our indecisiveness in eastern Europe signalled to our enemies that we are weak and divided — so is it any surprise that they are now trying to exploit this to their advantage?

Our adversaries — led by Russia, Iran, China and, to a lesser extent, North Korea — understand this. And they understand that, by working together, they can achieve their shared foreign policy goals and eventually reshape the global order to their advantage...

Our enemies are different heads of the same, frightening hydra — and together they have shown a great deal of discipline, coordination and aggression in pursuit of their collective interests.

In contrast, the West has been feckless and indecisive.

As Russia’s invasion turned into a war of attrition, the West’s solidarity collapsed...

Worse yet, Israel decided to ignore the dynamics of the new Cold War and courted Russia as an ally, as it believed that Moscow’s military presence in the Middle East could temper Islamist violence. And what did the Israelis get for this defection? Nothing. Russia expressed its full-throated support for Hamas after October 7, and has refused to condemn Iran’s recent bombings.

If the West had simply given Ukraine enough weapons to expel Russia two years ago, then there is no way that Iran would have considered bombing Israel today. It would have been made clear that attacking a western ally is futile and costly. Israel was put in danger because Ukraine was allowed to suffer — and because too many policymakers failed to appreciate that seemingly-disparate regional conflicts are, in truth, just different theatres of the same war...

They are going to win and we are too far behind technology wise to fight this. Thank dickheads Obama and Biden for this.

IIRC, Iran now makes their own weapons. That, combined with their 12th imam cult (that violence against non-muslims resurrects the 12th imam) makes their attack on Israel unrelated to Russia and Ukraine.

(Not to be confused with the Aggies' 12th man LOL)

A short supply of guts and real leaders on the Western side doesn’t help

Russia is not a natural ally of Islamic or communist nations. The left in the USA and the EU drove Russia into this alliance by sanctions and false flagging.

Kinda lost me right there. I consider Putin to be a war criminal. But the Ukraine /Russia war is Europe’s problem. And Europe is plenty rich enough to handle things. It’s not the United States’ problem. We are a debtor nation. We cannot afford to be the world’s policeman.

I do struggle a bit more about the Iran situation. Iran’s goal is not just domination of a neighboring region. Their goal is the complete destruction of Israel. So support Israel. But do it sensibly. No blank checks. No boots on the ground.

Eventually, China will look north to all that land Russia has that is going unused and will take it. Mark my words.

--- "The left in the USA and the EU drove Russia into this alliance by sanctions and false flagging."

Kudos for your clarity.

The line from the National Post article leaps out: "...the West's solidarity collapsed..."

There is no West, per se, for there is no "West" government - as singular entity which speaks for all. Even the EU -- a portion of but not all of Europe -- has adversarial issues with the US, and little, limp Canada is proving itself feckless again and again.

For the article to write of "the West" as if a single entity shows the foolishness of this all. We have our individual interests. As an example, my wife and I in South Carolina have interests very DIFFERENT from the current majority-Democrat California government. To attempt to wrap us with California as if of a single mind is "collective" -- and I mean this in the sense of collectivism.

Moreover the article speaks of "solidarity," as if all in the 'West' are supposed to agree with -- AND PAY -- for interests around the world. That too is collectivism. We did not elect to be ruled by the neocons, and it is interesting how many neo-cons may be found in the feckless and corrupt Biden administration in the moment. Solidarity, my butt....

Time for Adam Zivo and his Canadian friends to march into Ukraine and fight on the front lines. Or march into Gaza and fight Hamas. Or....

But what FECKLESS Canada and its feckless neocons want is someone else -- the United States -- to do what collective "Canada" wants.

Based on many ot the comments to the National Post article, not all agree with the National Post's "we."

We should have kept the CIA and the neo cons out of Ukraine. That’s what drove the Russia/China alliance. But that’s probably little to simple to understand for the corrupt minds of the west.

“More truth that certain FReepers here don’t want to hear…”

Don’t want to hear? Far from it, rejoice! The days of the American empire are ending. Forever wars killing millions that only benefit a ruling class. Hollowing out the productive foundations of the nation by attempting to turn other regions (not least of which was China) into our factory colonies. Destroy the very fabric of traditional American culture so as to lay the foundation for a global order. A hostile oppressive security state that propagandizes and spy’s on its subjects (for surely we are no longer citizens). So what “painful truth” do we fear? Who has done more damage to America? Russia…or Washington?

Yep. The current China/Russia alliance is a very temporary one of convenience.

China has some very old maps which they use as a basis to claim Siberia and the western Pacific as their own. The trick for the ChiComs will be to wait for Russia to collapse while avoiding a collapse of their own.

The ChiCom dream:

Nice map.

"Chinese" source: New York Times, 2014/07/04. Labeled in modern English and all, so it must be "...very old maps which they use as a basis to claim Siberia and the western Pacific as their own."

I’m not quite sure what you’re driving at there. I tried to be careful in my wording (post #15). The map is the “ChiCom dream”. It’s not one of the very old maps.

Have you links to any articles about these very old maps? The assertion suggests that they are available. It would be interesting to look further into this "basis to claim."

Else, one might conclude this is a NYTimes assertion using the modern map "as if." Just asking.

FACTS ON FILE-China sides w/ Hamas against Israel. Nevertheless, as of 2022, China
was Israel’s 2nd largest trading partner, with total trade value reaching a whopping $24.45 billion.

Backstory: Both the Trump and Biden administrations had restricted sensitive technological exports to China. As a result, China turned to cooperative Israel. China’s direct investment in Israel’s IT industry, especially in chips and semiconductors, now has increased.

In 2017, Israeli PM Netanyahu said China accounts for one-third of the investment in Israeli high technology, which includes US military technology the US shares w/ Israel, its strongest ally. In the ’90s, Israel sold military equipment and technologies to China, including the Harpy missile system.

This incident chilled relations between the United States and Israel, with Israel being suspended from its status as Security Cooperative Participant in the Joint Strike Fighter program. However, on 6 November 2005, Israel stated that it has been re-admitted into the program.

The US had to pressure Israel to stop sharing US military technology w/ China. Yet Israel still doesn’t restrict China from acquiring dual-usage technologies that could have military implications against the US.

A succession of US administrations warned Israel about its growing tie with China, sharing concern about China using Israel as a backdoor to access sensitive technologies from the US.

The most vocal objection to Sino-Israeli ties came from the Trump administration. When former Secy of State Mike Pompeo visited Israel in 2019, he warned Israelis that the CCP “engages in spying through its commercial state-owned enterprises and presents risk through its technology systems. Pompeo said China’s actions posed a risk.

Unfortunately, Israel largely brushed aside the warnings. Like many other countries, China’s massive market has enticed Israel. Plus, the Israeli government hopes China’s good relationships with Arab nations may help Israel.

This year, Netanyahu was working on a Sino-Israeli free trade agreement and planned to visit China. But China’s siding w/ Hamas should wake up Israel’s leaders to the reality that Communist China’s relationship with Israel is purely transactional.
