President of Belgian health insurance company promotes euthanasia as solution for aging population

The president of Belgium’s largest health care fund has promoted euthanasia as a solution for the country’s aging population problem.

Luc Van Gorp, head of Christian Mutuality (CM), pointed out that the number of people over 80 in Belgium will double up to 1.2 million by 2050, putting enormous financial pressure on the health care system and insurance companies.

According to De Specialist, Van Gorp said the problem cannot be solved with more money and called for “a radically different approach.”

“Doctors and other health professionals are now doing their utmost to make everyone live longer, but for what purpose? Living longer is not an end in itself, is it? It must first of all be about the question: how long can I live with quality [of life].”

“What about the category of older people who receive maximum care, but who still do not have the quality of life they want? That question is asked far too little,” he stated.

Van Gorp said that in addition to the current euthanasia law, there “should also be a softer form for people who feel that their lives are complete,” adding that “Many elderly people are tired of life.”

Instead of calling the process suicide, which has negative connotations, he “would rather call it: giving life back.”

“I know it is sensitive, but we really have to dare to have that debate.”

[[I say, once you retire from work, you get euthanized, no matter how old. ;)]]

No no no=- according to the left- euthanizing should come before a person retires because they slow down as they age, and can’t do their jobs as efficiently- they should move along and let younger people do the jobs until they too start aging some

Absolute worst people on the planet. Belgians.

Mark Steyn's mother was Belgian. So was Hercule Poirot.

Well, financially, it all make sense. Old people are drain on society, they do not contribute too much and they spend the most on healthcare.
Just put them down is an easy solution.
When they started allowing euthanasia, I predicted, it will soon snowball to this.
Fits right with the abortion. Just get rid of all the inconvenient people.

The left has interesting view on human life. They fight to “save” the lives of some bestial murderers, but like to kill the innocent babies and the elderly!

I’m in mid seventies and in relatively good health. That said, I’ve had friends die of horrible deaths so I can see helping highly selected and highly reviewed old people pass on into the next world peacefully instead of blowing their brains out or jumping off a building or taking 500 people with him/her who happen to be on an airliner with him/her.

All that said, there are 1,000 devious, terrible, hateful, cruel tricks that can be played on old people so there is a WORLD of opportunity for NO GOOD. And, RECENT events tell us we can’t trust our government AT ALL. So, WHO CAN we trust to be sure the old folks are not done in for someone’s convenience or someone’s bank account?

In a study of respondents to a poll about euthanasia, it was found that young, well-off people were for it, and older, less well-off people were against it.

The “fors” had a lot of control over their lives and thought that would continue forever, and the naysayers understood that euthanasia would be used against them, that they would lose protection.

Luc Van Gorp may be surprised one day if his current vision comes true.

It is very sad that in this once-Catholic country, all understandingbof life has been lost, and thus all respect for life has been lost as well.

Life is not about what you get but how you deal with what you get.
