Graphic bodycam footage released Tuesday revealed the chaos that unfolded when plainclothes Chicago cops fired nearly 100 gunshots during a traffic stop last month, killing one young man and leaving another injured.
Dexter Reed, 26, was killed during a March 21 traffic stop in Humboldt Park after officers in an unmarked cop car pulled him over for allegedly failing to wear a seatbelt.
The chaotic footage shows Reed rolling down the window of his SUV and then raising it before refusing to exit his vehicle as five officers scream commands and draw their weapons.
Preliminary evidence showed Reed had fired first at one officer during the shootout on West Ferdinand Street. Four other officers returned fire, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said in a statement.
“Available preliminary evidence also confirms that officers returned fire approximately 96 times over a period of 41 seconds, including after Mr. Reed exited his vehicle and fell to the ground,” COPA said.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least one of the officers who fired at him was black.
“Wear your damned seat belt and you won’t get pulled over.”
These are 1000% “revenue generation” and Fishing expedition stops.
Not wearing a seatbelt should NOT be a reason for police to stop, fish or fine any one.
You must be mistaken, the manner of death was, clearly, suicide.

I question if they are telling the whole story. Garfield Park, Humboldt, Englewood are the worst neighborhoods in Chicago.
Chicago PD does not send 5 plain clothes cops into the area like this to enforce seatbelts.
If you look at the car, they have done a pit maneuver on it. Again, for a seatbelt infraction?
Anyway, interested to know more....
Absolute clown show performance of "law enforcement officers" going wild because well, they can.
I have served in direct combat and I have never seen such a wild, untrained, undisciplined mess like this before.
Now, did the alleged shooter really shoot? Was anyone hit? Did the suspect have priors? When you have a suspect trapped inside a car, he's really easy to take out- why the Meuse Argonne level volume of fire?
I guess they think you're supposed to be able to shoot first if you object to a traffic stop.
That said, a lot of these stops are simply pretexts. The cops invent a reason to stop to fish for warrants and look for a reason to do a search, i.e., "I smell marijuana." I almost never see a cop pull someone over for a traffic stop anymore, so the whole "not earing a seat belt" sounds dubious, and if it was, the whole stop was unlawful.
Maybe they suspected the occupants of something. For there to be that many at the scene.

I have to think that 100 rounds zinging around presented a much bigger danger than some guy without a seatbelt.

They thought he was somebody else, or profiled him or figured “he had to have something”........then a cop spooked and started shooting.
Why was kid really carrying a gun?
Was kid carrying a gun or did it just appear in passenger seat?
Could it be the cops shot each other....96 phreaking bullets?
Who was in charge and who trained these pussies.
I hear what sounds like a squeaky voiced DEI woman going hysterical....most of them do.
They want to play with the boys until they meet a real wolf and find out why they should of stayed in the kitchen or hospitality.
But, what do I know and I don’t feel strongly about it.

My thoughts exactly
Many quality arrests are made based on a traffic violation. Everything doesn’t have to be some sort of conspiracy. It appears the officers who initiated the stop were riding four deep.
During Iraq operations it was always interesting to me to see the fire discipline of US troops in combat vs. the asshattery of US police forces killing Americans at the drop of a hat.
Five cops? Plain clothes cops? Unmarked car?
For a seat belt violation?
If the guy fired first he reaped the consequence of his actions.
